22901950 - PRINCIPLES AND BASICS OF SOCIAL SERVICE (objectives) Arguments discussed will deal with: 1) social-anthropological and juridical-philosophical basics of social work; 2) inspiring and operative principles in/of social work; 3) historical, social and juridical genesis of social work; 4) object, goals, functions and institutional position of social work; 5) ethical dimension of/in the profession. 6) the construction of a professional identity. - DI PRINZIO ANGELINA (syllabus) Starting from theoretical contributes of different disciplines, this module offers keys to research and to analyse the theoretical-disciplinary and philosophic bases of social work profession – study of Ethical Code – with a focus on its complexity and its peculiarity to other social professions, also in consideration of changes in Welfare State. Important themes of particular relevance for the profession will be discussed, as the ethical and methodological implications with social work principles and their “action” in practice, like poverty, social needs, social inclusion / exclusion processes, personalization and humanization of the interventions, the rights and their fruition, and so on. 22901946-1 - STORIA CONTEMPORANEA (L39/L40) (objectives) Goal of teaching is to develop an adequate knowledge of recent history through the reconstruction of the transformations of the economy, society and institutions over the last two centuries and study of certain interpretations of contemporary modernity - AZARA LILIOSA (syllabus) The course aims at offering the essential knowledge concerning the modifications of economy, society and institutions in the last two centuries, in order to provide students with few reading keys of contemporary modernity. The origin being the industrial revolution and the passing from the absolute State to the liberal-constitutional one and the end being globalization and the closing of the East-West bipolar era. In a few introductory lectures the course deals with methodological issues related to the interdisciplinary approach in historical research and to the periodization in socio-economic and political-institutional approach. In a second section, the course deals with the crucial points of the Twentieth century history: the drastic breaking down determined by the Great World War in the cultural history of Europe where Europe is no longer the world history theatre; the war heritage; the Twentieth century genocides and the dark side of modernity, with a special attention to the “forgotten genocide” of Armenians; the United States depression and its consequences on western democracies, first among others Germany; totalitarian regimes, according to a comparative approach; the Second World War; the post-war international scenarios; Cold War, decolonization, détente; republican Italy from foundation to the Seventies crisis. The course is structured as to allow the implementation of the students’ linguistic competences, requiring on the side of the student to develop a professional-oriented awareness of the L2 learning and practicing modalities, as well as some cultural analysis skills.
hTe reading of different types of texts – intended to show students both the pedagogic models of the English culture and the specific jargon of their field of interest (HR and Social Sciences) – will allow the student to enrich his/her lexical and grammar-syntactical competences through constant exercise (pre-reading and post-reading activities, reading and listening comprehension), stimulating the students’ reflection and discussion on general-interest themes and providing useful topics for class-work both at written and oral level. The constant use of English in the classroom will be encouraged, also by the use of multimedia materials; students will be fostered to noticing the differences and similarities between L2 and L1 also by providing and analyzing different translations of the texts proposed.
- Linguistic aspects will be focused on as well; grammar texts with answer-keys and monolingual and bilingual dictionaries are suggested in bibliography. Online language exercises links will be suggested too.

*N.B.: Students belonging to DISSAIFE and SERSS previous courses MUST stick to this program; they will also follow the exam modalities prescribed for this year. Those who need to obtain 4, 5 or 10 CFU must contact the teacher to agree on their specific exam modalities.
* N.B.: The exam test is written and consists in: (1) Fill-in-the-Gaps and Reading Comprehension, (2) Language Skill Test to ascertain grammar, syntax and lexical-idiomatic competencies). Students documenting they have achieved B1 level (or upper) through a CLA course or English placement test will be exonerated from part (2) of the test (they still will have to face the Fill-in-the-Gaps and the Reading Comprehension).
* N.B.: Due to the particular modality of the exam and to the learning needs in terms of time, the student will be allowed to undertake the test only once per exam session. Leaving this exam at the end of one’s curriculum studiorum, is NOT RECOMMENDED.

Moreover, the course aims to develop skills of social work intervention with regard to the planning of education programs targeted to groups at risk of social exclusion (in particular immigrants, refugees, unemployed and low literacy adults). - CATARCI MARCO (syllabus) The course is divided into two parts. The first part is focused, through a theoretical approach, on education as a means of combating social exclusion. To have of specific skills in that the professional documentation tool is one of the essential tools that a professional future, through the training, should be able to put in “professional tools tape”. Professional documentation as well as a fundamental instrument of social work and even a duty of public administration, special care will be placed in the teaching of writing mode of the Judicial Authority and acts directed study of the decrees which are issued by it. This specific subject is strictly related to the Professional Internship Workshop and teaching of professional tools. Topics Lessons will deal with the following topics: 1. Distinction between documents and documentation; 2. Professional documentation: type and finalizing documentation produced and documentation and informative, internal and external documentation, etc.; 3. social folder; 4. Diary of the case; 5. Recordings of interviews and home visits, and extracts from the minutes of meetings to decisions relating to the case; 6. Life Stories; 7. In particular, the course will focus on bullying attitudes, through the analysis of some of the first text dealing with the phenomenon in the UK. The constant use of English in the classroom will be encouraged; students will be fostered to noticing the differences and similarities between L2 and L1 also by providing and analysing different translations of the texts proposed. Pre-reading and post-reading activities, as well as reading and listening comprehension exercises will be proposed. The written exam test consists in a Reading Comprehension, to ascertain the knowledge of the texts, as well as grammar, syntax and lexical-idiomatic competencies. The origin being the industrial revolution and the passing from the absolute State to the liberal-constitutional one and the end being globalization and the closing of the East-West bipolar era. 22902486 - ENGLISH LANGUAGE II (L39/40) (objectives) THE COURSE AIMS TO HELP STUDENTS TO STRENGTHEN GRAMMAR, VOCABULARY AND LISTENING AT INTERMEDIATE/UPPER-INTERMEDIATE LEVEL (B1/B2 THE COMMON EUROPEAN FRAMEWORK OF REFERENCE FOR LANGUAGES) THROUGH THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE FOUR SKILLS - SPEAKING, READING, WRITING AND LISTENING – USING ENGLISH IN A RANGE OF REAL COMMUNICATIVE SITUATIONS. IT ALSO AIMS TO IMPROVE THE KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE, IN ORDER TO ALLOW STUDENTS TO ACQUIRE PRACTICAL READING AND SPEAKING SKILLS, TO LEARN TO READ, UNDERSTAND AND PRODUCE TEXTS ABOUT SOCIAL AND CULTURAL THEMES RELATING IN PARTICULAR TO COMMUNICATION, EDUCATION AND SOCIETY. - LEPRONI RAFFAELLA (syllabus) The reading of different types of narrative texts will allow the student to enrich his/her lexical and grammar-syntactical competences through constant exercise (pre-reading and post-reading activities, reading and listening comprehension), stimulating the students’ reflection and discussion on general-interest themes and providing useful topics for class-work both at written and oral level. In particular, the course will focus on bullying attitudes, through the analysis of some of the first text dealing with the phenomenon in the UK. The constant use of English in the classroom will be encouraged; students will be fostered to noticing the differences and similarities between L2 and L1 also by providing and analysing different translations of the texts proposed. Pre-reading and post-reading activities, as well as reading and listening comprehension exercises will be proposed. The written exam test consists in a Reading Comprehension, to ascertain the knowledge of the texts, as well as grammar, syntax and lexical-idiomatic competencies. A short oral exam follows, focusing on the analysis of the texts. The exam will include the test concerning the Laboratory of English Language (see specific Programme) so granting 9 CFU in total. * N.B.: Due to the particular modality of the exam and to the learning needs in terms of time, the student will be allowed to undertake the test only once per exam session. * N.B.: All changing concerning the program or the lessons, or any other news will be posted on the teacher’s page on the Department website. 22902001 - LABORATORY: SOCIAL ETHICS (L40) (objectives) THE LABORATORY ACTIVITIES INTEND TO SOLICIT A THOUGHT ABLE TO FACE THE UNSTOPPABLE PHENOMENA OF GLOBALIZATION OVERCOMING PREJUDICES AND STEREOTYPES AND TO GO TOWARD COSMOPOLITANISM THROUGH AN OPEN AND CRITICAL MIND. - MOSCHINI LAURA (syllabus) The workshop will consist of lectures accompanied by screenings of movies or multimedia documents, and on discussions with the students. Discussions will start even from issues, articles or essays submitted by students. The proposed themes are: - brief explanation of the main currents of classical ethical thought in relation with contemporary thought; gender issues and women's question; -capabilities, differences evaluation, the "world citizenship", liberal education, law and human rights, equal opportunities, the role of mass media in the creation and transmission of prejudices and stereotypes; - The conception of Ethics as the science of everyday life and presentation of experiences in support of the issues presented. It will be shown statistical and demographic data of different types of deviant behavior.and finally the method of “empathy” developed by the symbolic interactionism will be explained.
