The course presents the essential anthropological concepts and methods for understanding socio-cultural diversity ( culture/s, fieldwork, ethnicity, gender, migrations, transnationalism and globalisation). In a second step, the course presents the concepts in the Anthropology of development as follows: the historical relationship between colonialism, development and globalisation; the humanitarian reason focusing on gender perspective; the concept of development as a discourse and how it is experienced differently by local social actors; how and why it is fundamental to challenge perspectives that privilege an overwhelming reliance on economic indicators for measuring or quantifying development.
Further, students will apply the project management lifecycle: conception, initiation and objectives; planning; execution; performance/monitoring, evaluation and project close.

The course will address the evolution of the world economy geographic scenario in recent decades, as well as the evolution of the conceptual tools needed to understand the radical changes of economic and political nature materialized in this same period. With this in mind, we are going to discuss: the globalization and its territorial effects (from the breakup of the postwar global order, to the emergence of the Global South); the geography of resources (agricultural, mining, energetic); the industrial sectors in the third millennium; the centrality of urban spaces in the contemporary economy; the geography of transport and tourism and so on. In the second part of the course, we highlight the process of “spatial rewriting” of politics and we provide interpretative keys to understand the changes occurred in recent years in the complex relationship between geography and politics. Further to an overview on the evolution of the main schools of thought in the geopolitical sphere, we explore key subjects such as: the State and its transformations, from the Welfare State to Workfare State; the geography of regionalisms and nationalisms; the importance of social movements in contemporary politics; the areas of the world with the highest conflict rates and so on. There will be lectures and eventual workshops.

The course aims to provide the basic economic tools to analyze and understand the main determinants of the development of a given area or country. The development problem is dealt with both from a developing country perspective as well as considering the least developed areas of the developed countries. The territorial component of development is analyzed through the treatment of economic models and specific cases. In addition, the course addresses the topic of sustainable development by focusing on the main issues shared at the international level.
