The students will gain advanced skills in translation theory applied to cross-cultural dimensions of German-speaking countries that provide a foundation for advanced translation skills from German into Italian. He will also acquire expertise in the methodologies and techniques for reconstruction of the text. Further, he will refine his/her ability to use autonomously and problematically critical tools appropriate for a more detailed interpretation of the medieval text in its historical and cultural dimensions and aspects related to intertextual and transcultural phenomena.

We will explain the mechanisms of cohesion and textual coherence in Portuguese, then we will observe these phenomena at the level of translation theory and practice providing indications on methods and techniques of translation of texts of various types. In this respect special attention will be given to the written reformulation.

The module is intended go deeper into the application of the theoretical issues in translation studies and pragmatic aspects of translation to literary texts. Notions of discourse analysis and corpus analysis will be applied to the interpretation of the source texts and applied to the choice of the translation strategies.
Translation practice (English to Italian and viceversa) will be applied to different kinds of literary texts taken from different historical periods. Different media will be taken into consideration.
