TEMI DI RESTAURO ARCHITETTONICO IN AMBITO EUROPEO ED EXTRAEUROPEO
(objectives)
THE COURSE EXAMINES THEMES AND EXEMPLARY AND/OR CONTROVERSIAL INTERNATIONAL CASES RELATED TO THE RESTORATION OF MONUMENTS AND THE CONSERVATION OF CULTURAL HERITAGE.
-
SEGARRA LAGUNES MARIA MARGARITA
( syllabus)
The course deals with issues and exemplary and/or controversial cases of the international debate on the restoration of monuments and on the conservation of cultural heritage. Criteria, traditions, methods and techniques, related to specific geographical areas, orient and consolidate different ways of operating in other latitudes, sometimes in analogy, sometimes in open contrast with the principles of the Italian restoration discipline. The monographic lectures, alongside the reading of the case studies, are accompanied by a continuous comparison with the documents and the international restoration charters, which evolve in parallel with the widening and progress of the conceptions on the nature and the specificity of the "cultural heritages", differentiated both for the contexts and geographical areas in which they arise, both for the history, traditions and cultures that have accompanied them over the centuries. The study of diversity, as well as cultural singularities - in the field of restoration - in other nations contributes to enrich the knowledge of the theme and broadens the reference horizons of those who will be called to intervene, overcoming ideological barriers and prejudices, with greater awareness and responsibility on the existing built.

PROGETTO DEL RECUPERO URBANISTICO
(objectives)
THE COURSE AIMS AT PROVIDING THE ELEMENTS OF THE DISCIPLINE, METHODOLOGY AND TECHNIQUE TO INTERVENE IN THOSE URBAN AREAS, HISTORIC AND NON, IDENTIFIED SINCE 1978 BY THE LAW 457, WHICH INTRODUCED THE INSTRUMENT OF THE RECOVERY PLAN. THIS ALSO AND ESPECIALLY IN THE LIGHT OF THE EVOLUTION THAT THE INSTRUMENT HAD OVER THE YEARS AND THE CURRENT URBAN DYNAMICS, EVER MORE INTERESTED IN THE RECOVERY OF THE EXISTING URBAN AREAS.

21002139 PROGETTO DEL RECUPERO URBANISTICO in ARCHITETTURA - PROGETTAZIONE URBANA (DM 270) LM-4 CERASOLI MARIO
( syllabus)
Educational Goals The course aims at providing the elements of the discipline, methodology and technique to intervene in those urban areas, historic and non, identified since 1978 by the Law 457, which introduced the instrument of the Recovery Plan. This also and especially in the light of the evolution that the instrument had over the years and the current urban dynamics, ever more interested in the recovery of the existing urban areas.
Program of the Course Talking about urban renewal is an opportunity to learn and enhance the wealth of households, quarters and cities that form the majority of urban contexts in which we live. An historical centre, in particular, is a territorial context extremely delicate, with a distinct urban identity and a high historical value referable both to the urban structure and to the individual buildings, including those of significant value. Any planning action concerning an historical centre is therefore complex because "it is about, in the first place, to know it and recognize it, so as to understand its characteristics - spatial, documentary, functional - that identify it" (G.Piccinato, 2008). Understand, in essence, the territorial role. But also, and above all, it is important to understand the vision that the inhabitants and users have of the historical centre ("who owns the centre?"). The course will be divided in the following four parts, strictly related:
1. recovery planning: the scientific background and evolution of the disciplinary debate In this part the scientific context of urban renewal ("what we talk about?") in the field of the urban planning regulations will be defined and will run the history of the disciplinary debate that, since the Fifties, addressed urban contexts, and later even those degraded both in terms physical and social, will be studied. 2. legislation and planning instruments This part will analyze the texts of laws affecting the intervention on historical contexts, and in general on the existing building and urban structures, and related planning instruments, from the Recovery Plan (Art. 27 of Law 457 of 1978), up to the integrated programs of the nineties. 3. techniques The study of the techniques of interventions in historical contexts will make use of the analyses of recovery plans and detailed plans of town centres, checking out the objectives, contents, technical procedures, the procedural issues and, finally, the story of implementation. 4. a practical exercise Together with the theoretical study, the analyses of a small urban town, the small town of Sutri (Viterbo), will be run in order to set a draft Recovery Plan and identify the related urban policies.
The course consists of lectures, seminars, guided visits and project workshops. In particular at the end of the course, there will be an intensive project workshop lasting six days (from 13 to 18 June 2016).
The course, optional, is open to students enrolled in the three degree courses and will last 100 hours (8 credits). For the exam, students must demonstrate that they have acquired elements of the discipline studied during the course and explain the output of their practical exercise.

( syllabus)
The process of individualization of society is likened to the ongoing process of fragmentation of the city, its division into shares. Yet if one looks at the urban reality, practices do not miss the opportunity of a different description of the urban reality. Forms of association and the community seem to return in an urban setting. Densification of existing neighbourhoods and regeneration mean that the relationship between place and the community to be a crucial focus of urban studies. The course aims to equip students with the foundations for a critical understanding of urban issues and to compare these with the role that the urban project may have.

contents in the last sixty years, the evolution of computing power led to the development of modeling techniques and numerical strategies, first addressed only to analytic and often complicated procedures, aimed at structural analysis. the finite element method (fem) plays nowadays a naturally multidisciplinary role, where physical models can be implemented by simple modular schemes and iterative algorithms.
the course focuses on this methodology, aiming to complement the skills of a masters degree curriculum. it will provide the basic notions to study structural performances via computational frameworks, employed as tools to formulate and design structures, a common educational path of engineering and architectural courses. teaching methods the collapse analysis will be regarded in fems as a natural extension of the linear elastic analysis. this will be framed within push-over analyses, which are today prescribed in the technical codes, in order to better evaluate structural capability and ductility under seismic loading conditions.
moreover, the equilibrium field equations will be formulated in a general mathematical format, thus being apt to their use in general-purpose softwares, such as comsol multiphysics, a program able to simulate generic physical problems. verification of learning the final assessment will be a presentation and discussion of an in-depth investigation on one specific topic, chosen among those presented during the course. both self and group works are admitted.

Objectives IN THIS CLASS, STUDENTS EXPERIMENT WITH THE NEW DESIGN TECHNIQUES LINKED TO DIFFUSION OF NEW INSTRUMENTS OF PARAMETRIC MODELLING, DIRECTLY LINKED TO ANALYSIS AND DIGITAL MANUFACTURING TOOLS. THE AIM IS TO EXPOSE THEM TO THE EVOLUTION OF PROFESSIONAL PROFILES BRINGED BY NEW INSTRUMENTS. THIS IS DONE THROUGH LECTURES, A SELECTION OF PROJECTS, BUT ALSO MEETINGS IN PERSON WITH COMPANIES AND PEOPLE INVOLVED IN THE NEW FIELDS, THROUGH DEDICATED SEMINARS. THE KEY IS THAT AT THE SAME TIME STUDENTS HAVE A DIRECT EXPERIENCE OF THE INSTRUMENTS BY USING THEM IN THE CLASS. THROUGH THEIR OWN WORK, THE LINKS WITH THEIR COLLEAGUES IN A SHARED WEB PLATFORM, AND THE LINK WITH OTHER PARALLEL CLASSES, ALLOWED BY THE COURSE. IN THIS WAY, THE COURSE AIMS AT HAVING THEM UNDERSTAND THROUGHOUT AND WITHIN THEIR OWN EXPERIENCE, THE NEW PRODUCTION METHODS OF CONTEMPORARY ENLARGED DESIGN TEAMS, WHERE PROJECTS ARE DEVELOPED PASSING SEAMLESSLY FROM DIGITAL MODELING OF CONSTRUCTIVE COMPONENTS AND OF THEIR ASSEMBLY SEQUENCE TO PRECISE CONTROL OVER DESIGN GEOMETRY, STRUCTURAL AND ENERGY ANALYSIS, UP TO DIGITAL MANUFACTURING OF THE FINAL OUTCOMES. Contents Parametric Design Techniques
The course is focused on innovative design processes. Students will be exposed to advanced methods as well as to design and production examples in order to set up the awareness of the new toolset that is available to designers and engineers in the fields of parametric modeling, analysis and digital fabrication. Student work will be deployed in software such as Revit, Rhino/Grasshopper, GenerativeComponents, Ecotect, SAP, CNC packages depending on the chosen topic. But in any case the focus will be on the production of data (cost, structural behaviour, construction, environmental analysis), in the context of constant exchange in multisciplinary design groups. Each student will have the chance to customize the course experience by linking the topic to external classes, to develop interdisciplinary and collaborative design topics. This will ultimately lead to the experience of the new professional profiles that are requested to architects by the new working environment of the contemporary digital culture. The class will be linked to the ongoing research project for the Solar Decathlon Europe 2012.

( syllabus)
The optional course lasts the whole academic year and provides for the participation in the “Seminario itinerante di progettazione Villard”, reaches the seventeenth edition. To the Seminar participate 13 Faculties, Italian and foreign (Alghero, Ascoli Piceno, Napoli, Palermo, Paris Malaquais, Reggio Calabria, Patrasso, Roma, Venezia, Ancona, Milano, Genova, Pescara, Trapani) and some prestigious cultural institutions. The Seminar, is reserved to the students of the Laurea Magistrale and, for organizational matters, to a maximum of 10 students selected in base to the worth, through the presentation of a portfolio and an interview. The program foresees the layout of a project on the theme of year, generally proposed by administrations town or other institutions or corporate and, however, connected to different territorial realities. The theme is introduced at the beginning of the seminar and developed during the year according to the anticipated schedule. The trip and the knowledge of the cities constitutes the main core of the seminar. During every meetings, generally four and of the duration of two/three days, lessons, lectures, visits and shows are organized, with the contribution of the teachers of the Faculties participants. The itinerancy of the seminar ensures that students come into contact with different physical and cultural places, crossing experiences and knowledge with teachers and students from other cities. The seminar has its conclusion in a final event: the show, with the presentation and awarding of the best projects, followed by the publication of the catalog with the work of students and critical contributions collected during the seminar.
The program of the “XVII Seminario itinerante di progettazione Villard” foresees the layout of a general masterplan and single architectural projects in Naples, between the areas of the “College Ciano” and “Mostra d’Oltremare” near Bagnoli. The theme is the creation of a new urban center linked to the theme of multiculturalism and finalized to the realization of houses, services and meeting places for the peoples of the Mediterranean.

Formative objectives of the course
At the end of the course the student will demonstrate a good knowledge of the Italian and international architecture of the last fifty years, as well as an adequate understanding of languages and architectural trends of the period considered. He will be able to contextualize the architectural works too, proving to get the sources and the cultural tools to know and understand the various schools of thought and the underlying critical developments.
Prerequisite
The structure and the course content requires basic knowledge of the history of western modern and contemporary architecture. It is recommended to follow the course after attending the I and II architectural history courses.
Course Programme
The history of western architecture, as well as the architecture itself, is strongly influenced by theoretical and critical structures, as well as the dominant ideology in a specific historical period. The course includes lessons in chronological order. It will outline the main personalities and the most representative architectural works of the cultural and art scene of the last fifty years. The course will start with the study of the Modern Movement crisis, that is particularly underlined by the dissolution of CIAM in Otterlo in 1959. The avant-garde of the 60s will be analyzed starting from the experiences of Metabolist groups, Archigram, Radicali italiani, to get to the diagrammatic projects of the 90s, through the experiences of the '70s and '80s: La tendenza, o architettura razionale, and the Post Modern. Influential personalities, historiographyc and historical background will support the study of the works that have most marked the architectural landscape. These ones will be explained both formally and structurally, as well as the architectural scale to the urban one.
Teaching methods
The course consists of weekly lessons (on Fridays from 14.00 to 18.00) in which homogeneous study themes will be developed. It is recommended to attend and participate actively.
Learning ability test Method
The final exam consists of an oral examination to test the knowledge of the course topics, treated during lessons and in the texts listed in the bibliography. You can submit a single search, or to team up with a group of maximum 3 or 4 students, on the issue of residence during the period studied. The research exposure date and the topic must be agreed with the teacher. The presentation of the topic developed will contribute to the final evaluation.
