The course intends to review the methodological and thematic issues of Phenomenology, one of the main currents of the 20th century philosophy. From the beginning, this broad philosophical movement aims to overcome the schematic oppositions (i.e. between absolutism and relativism or rationalism end empiricism) pursuing a program finalized to reject both the naïve positivism of the late 19th century and the many more or less relativistic-oriented philosophies. This course will analyze the origins of Phenomenology, Husserl’s thought especially, and its historical and philosophical context between late 19th and early 20th century. The course will also extend its analysis to the developments of phenomenology in other cultural contexts, taking in account its original reception in the french culture during post-world war I and post-world war II, especially by Jean-Paul Sartre and Maurice Merleau-Ponty, who founded a specifically French phenomenological tradition which currently exists.

Development of: a) ability to communicate ideas, attitudes, intentions and to solve foreign language-specific communicative problems; b) knowledge and understanding of theoretical and methodological translation issues; c) analytic and translation skills in a range of texts produced in selected domains.
Teaching/learning activities include: lectures; language improvement classes; use of language laboratory; text analysis and translation workshop.

The course explores the relationship between the philosophical and religious domains attempting to reconcile the two poles in the thought of Levinas and Ricoeur.

The course aims at analysing the ethical dimension of Joachim Ritter’s ethics

Based on the reading and discussion of selected passages from the most important works of the three philosophers concerned, this course will seek to delve deeper into their – often innovative and original – ideas on the natural world and on the newly configured relationship between human beings, the world the inhabit and divinity.

This course will focus on Plotinus’ views on the soul and its cognitive activities: perception, memory and two kinds of thought, i.e. the (ordinarily conscious) discursive thought activity, and the (ordinarily un conscious) intellectual intuition. We will read passages from Plotinus’ treatises IV 3 [27], IV 4[28], V 3 [49].

The course aims to reconstruct the most relevant topics of the processing complex ontological univocity of the being in philosophical thought of John Duns Scotus Analytically following some key steps in Lectura and Ordinatio Opus Oxonian, will open a direct comparison with the thorough and systematic interpretation and the original proposal on the Master Franciscan studying developments in the debate between Aristotle and Augustine of the fourteenth century analogy of mysticism and ambiguity.
