Degree Course: Political science
A.Y. 2023/2024
- delle principali caratteristiche del sistema internazionale contemporaneo, con particolare attenzione per i problemi relativi alle dinamiche della sua evoluzione, alla sicurezza, ai cambiamenti introdotti dalla globalizzazione economica, alla trasformazione dei rapporti tra gli stati e all'emergere di nuovi attori non statali o sovranazionali, ad alcune specifiche aree geografiche destinate a costituire nuovi ed importanti elementi costitutivi degli scenari internazionali del futuro;
- dei meccanismi e del funzionamento dei principali processi dell'Europa contemporanea, sia per quanto riguarda le istituzioni e i processi decisionali dell'Unione Europea, sia per quanto riguarda le dinamiche dei rapporti tra gli stati che ne fanno parte, sia infine per quanto riguarda l'evoluzione storico-culturale dell'Europa stessa;
- dei principali processi che regolano le società contemporanee, con particolare attenzione a quei fenomeni di maggiore rilievo come le dinamiche demografiche dell'età contemporanea, i meccanismi che regolano la comunicazione a tutti i livelli, la normativa che regola i rapporti in costante evoluzione nel mondo del lavoro;
- incarichi di medio livello presso le organizzazioni non governative e vari enti pubblici e privati, italiani e internazionali, attivi in questo contesto;
- nel contesto lavorativo di medio livello attinente ai rapporti con l'Unione Europea in tutti quegli enti pubblici o privati che hanno bisogno di personale in grado di conoscere sia i meccanismi di funzionamento delle istituzioni europee sia le realtà dei principali paesi europei;
- in vari settori occupazionali del terziario avanzato, in particolare nelle attività di formazione e di orientamento professionale pubblico e privato; nei servizi sociali del Servizio Sanitario Nazionale;
- per la selezione del personale e le attività commerciali e di marketing delle imprese, e per attività di consulenze e ricerche in merito a indagini di mercato e sondaggi di opinione e ricerche demoscopiche;
Orientamento in ingresso
a) incontri e manifestazioni rivolte alle future matricole;
Partecipano annualmente circa 4.000 studenti; nel 2021 si sono svolte in modalità telematica;
Nell’anno scolastico 2020-2021 la realizzazione del progetto in modalità online ha dato la possibilità a 20 scuole – dislocate sul territorio romano e laziale – di partecipare;
• Attività di orientamento sviluppate dai singoli Dipartimenti, mediante incontri in presenza e servizi online;

LANGUAGE, CULTURE AND INSTITUTIONS OF ENGLISH SPEAKING COUNTRIES
(objectives)
Students A-L The course is made up of two modules. While the first module deals with some of the main grammar and morpho-syntactic structures of the English language, the second module focuses on the diversity of American culture through short stories and their writers. A selection of American short stories from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries will be read and discussed. Special attention will be given to their formal and rhetorical characteristics as well as their impact and legacy on American history and culture.
Students M-Z The course is made up of two modules. While the first module deals with some of the main grammar and morpho-syntactic structures of the English language, the second module focuses on the literary and critical contribution by twentieth-century African-American writers. In an interdisciplinary framework, the analysis of the formal features of these texts will be instrumental to connect literary and socio-cultural issues. By promoting active participation in class, the adopted teaching method envisages the improvement of language skills and the ability to engage in open discussion.

GLOBAL HISTORY
(objectives)
During the early modern period, unprecedented economic, political, and cultural interconnections played a significant role in shaping new images of the world. Through an examination of historical and literary sources, we will analyze these transformations from a dual perspective. Firstly, we will investigate the metamorphoses in the concepts and practices of sovereignty prompted by the emergence of the first colonial empires. Secondly, we will explore how these changes influenced the formation of paradigms that support 'global' or 'connected' interpretations of social phenomena, delving into their origins, methodologies, and impacts.

STORIA DELLA RUSSIA E DELL'EUROPA CENTRO-ORIENTALE
(objectives)
The History of Central-Eastern Europe and Russia embraces the study of the main political, economic and social dynamics of the countries of Central Europe, of the South-Eastern part of the continent and of Russia in contemporary age, with inevitable references also to the events of the modern age. The study of this area is particularly important for students of Political Science because like few areas in the world it allows them to analyze the processes of nation building and state building and therefore, after 1917 in Russia/Ussr and after 1945 in most of Eastern Europe, the impact that the construction of communist dictatorships had on those societies. After 1990, on the other hand, students will be able to appreciate the processes of transition to a market economy and Western-style democracy. Finally, it is worth emphasizing how today the Italian cultural and economic presence is very important in many countries of the region.

POLITICAL ECONOMY
(objectives)
The course is structured in two main parts.
The first part is concerned with Microeconomics, where the students will learn how markets and governance structures organize core economic activities, such as production, distribution, and consumption, and the growth of productive resources. Upon completion of this part students will be able to identify and explain economic concepts and theories related to the behavior of economic agents, markets, industry and firm structures, and government policies. Moreover, students will be able to integrate theoretical knowledge with quantitative evidence in order to explain main economic events. Students will be able to evaluate the consequences of economic activities and institutions for individual and social welfare.
The second part is concerned with Macroeconomics, where the students will learn about the determinants of macroeconomic conditions (national output, employment, inflation), causes of business cycles, and interactions of monetary and financial markets with the real economy, familiarizing themselves in the process with major economic theories of relevance.
Upon completion of the second part students will be able to identify the determinants of various macroeconomic aggregates such as output, unemployment, inflation, productivity and the major challenges associated with the measurement of these aggregates. They will be able to discuss the linkages between financial markets and the real economy, and how these linkages influence the impact of economic policies over differing time horizons. Moreover, students will be able to describe the main macroeconomic theories of short term fluctuations and long term growth in the economy and they will be able to critically evaluate the consequences of basic macroeconomic policy options under differing economic conditions within a business cycle.

Starting from the analysis of production factor accumulation as an interpretative key to explain growth (i.ee physical capital, population and economic growth, future trends in demographic development and human capital), the student is subsequently exposed to the study of productivity (and in particular, to problems related to its measure), technology and the concept of technological frontier. Subsequently, the analysis framework is extended through the study of efficiency and economic growth in an open economy. Finally, it is completed by providing the student with an overview of the fundamentals of development by examining the role that state, income inequality, cultural context, geography, climate and natural resources play in explaining economic development.

To this end, the course is divided into three modules: the first module (language) provides for the study of the morphosyntactic functioning of Spanish (level B1 +); in the second module (phraseology and paremiology) we will deal with the formal and semantic characteristics of phraseological and paremiological units at multiple levels (morphological, syntactic, semantic, contrastive [Spanish / Italian] and, in particular, cultural). The third module provides the approach to the study of some specialty languages: sectorial (political, economic), technical-scientific (IT) and argot (social net word), through the analysis of original written texts in Spanish and listening (YouTube channel, database, corpora) of authentic oral materials. The course, structured as follows, will allow you to familiarize yourself with dynamics concerning the language, culture, politics, society and economy of the current Spanish- speaking world.
