Students will improve their skills and knowledge of the intermedial and intercultural dynamics related to contemporary literatures and cultures of French-speaking countries. The course aims also at offering the students methodological instruments they need to analyse literary complex and diversified texts. Students will be able to develop autonomously further cultural and literary knowledge and competences of a higher level applying them to other, specific literary texts.

Students will acquire advanced competences in translation theory applied to French poetic texts and will refine their skills in the critical analysis, interpretation and translation of texts, such as 19th century prose poems characterized by their linguistic and cultural complexity.

Theory and practice of translation of literature and criticism in several sections.

The course aims to provide the acquisition of the skills equivalent to an advanced level of proficiency in Portuguese. We will explain the mechanisms of cohesion and textual coherence in Portuguese, then we will observe these phenomena at the level of translation theory and practice providing indications on methods and techniques of translation of texts of various types. In this respect special attention will be given to the written reformulation.

The module is intended go deeper into the application of the theoretical issues in translation studies and pragmatic aspects of translation to literary texts. Notions of discourse analysis and corpus analysis will be applied to the interpretation of the source texts and applied to the choice of the translation strategies.
Translation practice (English to Italian and viceversa) will be applied to different kinds of literary texts taken from different historical periods. Different media will be taken into consideration.

The students will gain advanced skills in translation theory applied to cross-cultural dimensions of German-speaking countries that provide a foundation for advanced translation skills from German into Italian. By translating a range of different text genres, they will refine their ability to analyze and create texts of significant complexity and to reflect on their linguistic and cultural implications.
