THE AIM OF THIS COURSE IS THE ACQUISITION OF THE BASIC NOTIONS OF ALGEBRAIC AND DIFFERENTIAL CALCULUS IN ONE AND MORE VARIABLES AND THE CAPACITY OF SOLVING OPTICAL PROBLEM WITH THEM.

THIS COURSE IS MEANT TO ACQUIRE THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE BASIC LAWS OF DYNAMICS OF MATERIAL POINT, THERMODYNAMICS AND ELECTROMAGNETISM. THERE WILL BE FURTHER APPLICATIONS TO THE DYNAMICS OF FLUID SYSTEMS, ALTERNATING CURRENT CIRCUITS, STATE TRANSFORMATIONS IN MATTER. THE COURSE WILL BE ACCOMPANIED BY EXAMPLES AND EXERCISES ACTS TO ACQUIRE THE ABILITY TO SOLVE PROBLEMS THAT HAVE RELEVANCE WITH THE APPLICATION OF THE LAWS OF PHYSICS IN THE REAL WORLD.

UNDERSTANDING THE BASICS OF GEOMETRICAL OPTICS AND SOME ASPECTS OF WAVE OPTICS

TO BECOME FAMILIAR WITH THE USE OF THE PROGRAMS USED FOR THE STATISTICAL DATA ANALYSIS AND FOR SCIENTIFIC WRITING.

Quick revision of the fundamentals of geometrical optics (applied to thin lenses and thick lenses) and of the human eye anatomy. Introduction of the students to the ”normal eye” features as described by the “Gullstrand Eye” and from the Simplified "one surface Emsley Eye". Description of refractive phenomena (and their deviation from emmetropy) as well as of the "accomodation". A special attention will be paid to their relationships with the retinal image quality and with the visual functions (e.g. visual acuity; sensitiveness to the contrast).Introduction of Geometrical Optics applied to the description and correction (through ophthalmic lenses) of the most firmly established ametropies.

Acquiring knowledge of the basic principles of General and Inorganic Chemistry and the ability to apply the acquired knowledge to simple problems of Chemistry.

PRESENTATION. The Geometrical Optics Laboratory is a natural development of the Course of Elements of Optics, through the learning by experience and application of the theoretical knowledge developed during such a course, with a special attention towards the Optometry, confining the Syllabus to the applied Geometrical Optics. The unavoidable background required to the candidates consists of the fundamental knowledge of mathematical analysis, algebra, trigonometry along with the basis of the use of the personal computer and the theoretical knowledge acquired with the Course of Elements of Optics. Those knowledge will be assumed compulsory for each one intended in participating the laboratory sessions. The Fundaments of Visual Optics Course will be scheduled contemporaneously with the course of Geometrical Optics Laboratory therefore the students are kindly encouraged to attend to both of them. The Course of Geometrical Optics consists in the carrying out of a set of practical experiences , according to the history of previous years of courses. They will be usually ten experiences to be choosen among a wider set of possibilities that will be carried out at the didactic labs of the Department of Physics (University of Roma Tre). For this reason the compulsory attendance to the course is required and the participation to the final examinations entails the presence of each candidate to at least a minimum of70% of the whole numbers of the actually performed experience. Each experience will be worked out by groups of not more than two or three peoples and as soon the experience will be clone each group must produce a written homework discussing the obtained results and a short discussion of the simple statistical analysis performed. Theoretical aspects and the fundamental knowledge required to the proper development of each experience will be discussed in full detail just before the start of each laboratory sessions. Statistical aspects of the experimental data treatment of the single experience will be discussed just before the starting of the laboratory activity. The final examination will consists in the individual discussion of two or more of the experiences developed by each candidate during the laboratory sessions, with special attention to the theoretical aspect of the experience and to the statistical tools worked out.

Students will have to gain knowledge of Optics Physics and its instruments.
They will have to achieve a good level of autonomy during lab class in testing the main rules of optics, in using experimental methods and in processing experimental data also with IT support.

Basic Cell biology. Anatomy and histology of the eye and of main human organ systems. Basic knowledge of the mechanisms of circulation, respiration, muscular activity, nervous and receptorial activity.

STUDY OF THE EYE AS AN ORGAN INTEGRATED WITH OTHER APPARATI AND SYSTEMS OF THE BODY
CIRCULATION, RESPIRATION, MUSCLE FUNCTION, CELLULAR RECEPTORS, NERVOUS SYSTEM, SECRETION AND NEUROENDOCRINE REGULATION.

To become acquainted with the fundamental aspects of quantum mechanics and properties of matter in different aggregation states.

INTRODUCTION OF BASIC KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THE MATERIALS, GEOMETRY AND CONSTRUCTION TECNICS OF CONTACT LENSES. PROVIDE KNOWLEDGE ON THE GEOMETRIC, PHYSICAL AND PHYSIOLOGICAL RELATIONS BETWEEN CONTACT LENSES AND THE EXTERNAL EYE. ALLOW ACQUISITION OF OPERATIVE SKILLS IN THE MANAGEMENT OF EXERNAL EYE ASSESMENT AND PHYSICAL SIZE OF CONTACT LENSES MEASURING METHODS. PROVIDE THE BASIC SKILLS FOR THE CORRECTION OF REFRACTIVE ERRORS WITH CONTACT LENSES.

To introduce the student to the knowledge of basic techniques of visual functions and clinical investigation of the eye.
To know the use of principal tools, to be able to use these tools in clinical research.
To discriminate between physiological and altered state of view.
To know the ametropia
To make a optometric diagnosis and hypothesis of optical treatment.

A detailed knowledge of clinical investigation of the eye and techniques of visual functions. To know the principles on which is based and the mechanism of binocular vision anomalies associated with it. To know the principles of treatment of anomalies of binocular vision. A detailed knowledge of deficit disorders and functional vision. To know how explain a case for treatment and rehabilitation program of visual function. Be introduced to recognize the fundaments of the signs of lack in visual secondary function and ocular and general disease .

ACQUISITION OF KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS IN CONTACT LENS FITTED ON REGULAR OR IRREGULAR CORNEAS. EVALUATION AND MANAGEMENT OF PHYSICAL AND PHYSIOLOGICAL OCULAR REACTIONS INDUCED BY CONTACT LENS WEAR.

ACQUIRE THE KNOWLEDGE OF EYE DISEASES

KNOWLEDGE OF THE FUNDAMENTAL PROPERTIES OF MATERIALS COMMONLY USED IN FABRICATION OF OPTICAL AND OPHTHALMOLOGICAL DEVICES.
