The history of the modern literatures of French-speaking country (1850-1950).

The Spanish culture and literature of 16th century and 17th century.

Acquisition of a knowledge of literary and cultural history of Spanish-speaking countries of Latin America of the nineteenth century and the contemporary era, with particular regard to the interrelation with the social and historical dynamics that have characterized the Spanish-American culture of this period. Discussion of issues relating to cultural and literary theories of multiculturalism and multi ethnicity. Acquisition of advanced skills for analysis and interpretation of texts, with particular attention to the methods of philology and historical-cultural studies. Acquisition of the ability to formulate independently (including for the final exam: essay three years) cases of reading and interpretation of the texts studied in relation to the contextual dimension that will be given during the course.
Prerequisites: Spanish-American Language and Literatures II.

This module aims to provide students with a broad knowledge of the history of English literature and culture in the period from its origins to the end of the Renaissance (1660). It will provide them with a good competence in close-reading methodology and literary/ philological research, through the study of primary texts (in their thematic, formal, intertextual and intermedial aspects) and of secondary texts (in order to stimulate students’ understanding of the most recent theoretical and methodological debates).

Advanced knowledge of the literary and cultural history of the United States and the English-speaking countries of America in the twentieth century. Special attention will be devoted to intercultural, postcolonial and multiethnic dynamics, to gender identities, and the geo-political diversity. The students will be also acquainted with the contemporary debate on the techniques and methodologies employed in the analysis of the processes of literary, cultural communication.

The history of modern German literature and culture in the 19th century.

The course aims at offering the students thorough knowledge of Russian Literature and Culture of XIX century and theoretical and methodological debate. Students will able to develop autonomously further cultural and literary knowledge and competences of a higher level applying them to other, specific literary texts.

The student will gain comprehension skills, speaking skills and writing skills at level A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The main focus of the lectures is on phonology of contemporary German.
