Conoscenza e capacità di comprensione
Si attende l'acquisizione da parte degli studenti di competenze culturali integrate nei vari settori delle Scienze Geologiche (geologico-paleontologico, mineralogico-petrografico, geochimico-vulcanologico, geomorfologico), le quali a loro volta permetteranno la comprensione olistica del Sistema Terra.
Tali competenze saranno acquisite tramite le attività formative relative agli insegnamenti dell'ambito delle Discipline Caratterizzanti, con la partecipazione a lezioni frontali, esercitazioni di laboratorio, esercitazioni sul terreno, seminari e con lo studio autonomo.
La verifica e la valutazione delle conoscenze e capacità acquisite si farà attraverso prove scritte, pratiche e/o orali sia in itinere sia al termine delle singole attività formative.
Capacità di applicare conoscenza e comprensione
Si attende l'acquisizione da parte degli studenti di approfondite competenze applicative multidisciplinari per svolgere attività geologiche sia sul terreno sia in laboratorio riguardanti settori quali la gestione del territorio, la geologia dei fluidi (acqua, petrolio, gas), la geodinamica dell'area mediterranea.
Tali competenze saranno acquisite nelle attività formative relative agli insegnamenti degli ambiti caratterizzanti ed affini ed integrativi che saranno svolti in aula, in attività di laboratorio tra cui molte che richiedono corrette applicazioni di protocolli analitici, e in attività di terreno ed in particolar modo in attività di terreno in contesti operativi, che includono il rispetto delle leggi vigenti e delle norme di sicurezza.
La verifica delle acquisizioni di tali conoscenze potrà essere effettuata in itinere con l'elaborazione di relazioni inerenti alle attività svolte e durante l'esame attraverso prove scritte e/o pratiche e/o orali.
Autonomia di giudizio
Si attende che gli studenti acquisiscano una consapevole autonomia di giudizio con riferimento alla valutazione e interpretazione di dati presenti nella letteratura scientifica specifica e in particolar modo alla valutazione e interpretazione dei dati sperimentali di terreno e di laboratorio.
Tale autonomia di giudizio deve essere strettamente correlata con l'applicazione dei principi della deontologia professionale.
La partecipazione attiva alle lezioni e alle esercitazioni in laboratorio e sul terreno, la presentazione di tesine alla fine di alcuni corsi (in special modo in quelli per i quali è prevista attività di terreno) e le discussioni con il relatore (ed eventuale/i correlatore/i) durante lo svolgimento della tesi sono considerati gli strumenti didattici di insegnamento e verifica.
Abilità comunicative
Gli studenti devono acquisire adeguate competenze di comunicazione, scritta e orale, in italiano e inglese, per poter presentare relazioni scientifico-tecniche.
Devono inoltre poter presentare i dati in maniera sintetica, servendosi dello strumento informatico.
Si attende altresì che gli studenti siano in grado di poter presentare in maniera corretta, senza complicare ma anche senza banalizzare, temi che interessano la comunità nel suo insieme (terremoti, eruzioni vulcaniche, frane ecc.).
La raccolta dati su argomenti di attualità geologica e l'esposizione da parte degli studenti ai loro colleghi e al/i docente/i in classe costituisce un valido strumento didattico.
Le abilità comunicative verranno valutate in maniera esplicita durante la discussione della tesi di laurea magistrale.
Capacità di apprendimento
Gli studenti dovranno sviluppare adeguate capacità per poter approfondire e implementare le conoscenze già in loro possesso e per estendere tali conoscenze all'acquisizione di ulteriori competenze.
Dovranno inoltre essere in grado di sviluppare capacità di aggiornamento continuo nel loro campo di conoscenze attraverso la consultazione di bibliografia, banche dati e altre informazioni in rete.
Infine dovranno essere in grado di apprendere nuove tecniche di laboratorio che il continuo sviluppo tecnologico rende indispensabili.
La partecipazione in seminari riguardanti i progressi scientifici e tecnologici in vari campi di Scienze Geologiche e le applicazioni di tali progressi in campo professionale e la preparazione di relazioni su tali seminari da parte degli studenti possono essere considerati un buon strumento di didattica e valutazione in questo settore.
Requisiti di ammissione
Possono presentare domanda d’immatricolazione al Corso di Laurea Magistrale in Geologia e Tutela dell’Ambiente gli studenti in possesso di una laurea triennale come previsto dalle leggi in vigore e dai decreti ministeriali, di conoscenze nelle materie di base (Matematica, Fisica e Chimica), comprovate da un minimo di 18 CFU nei settori disciplinari relativi, di conoscenze e competenze ed abilità fondamentali nelle Scienze della Terra, comprovate da un minimo di 42 CFU nei settori disciplinari GEO.
Il possesso dei requisiti per l’immatricolazione e la verifica del possesso di tali conoscenze da parte di laureati in classi diverse da L-34 e L-32 sarà verificato dalla Commissione Didattica Permanente di Geologia.Prova finale
La prova finale del Corso di Laurea Magistrale in Geologia e Tutela dell’Ambiente consiste nella preparazione di una tesi originale, in italiano o in inglese, elaborata dallo studente con l'assistenza di almeno un docente appartenente al Collegio Didattico (relatore).
Potranno assistere lo studente più docenti (correlatori), non necessariamente facenti parte del Collegio Didattico.
Gli argomenti oggetto della prova finale riguardano approfondimenti di aspetti sperimentali affrontati dallo studente durante il Corso di studi magistrali.
Una Commissione, formata da relatori e correlatori degli studenti laureandi e da docenti del Corso di Laurea e/o membri esterni non appartenenti al Consiglio Didattico, nominata dalla Commissione Didattica Permanente di Geologia assegnerà la votazione finale in centodecimi, che verrà determinata tenendo conto della qualità del lavoro svolto e della presentazione dell'elaborato, oltre che dal curriculum didattico dello studente secondo le procedure indicate dettagliatamente nel Regolamento Didattico.Orientamento in ingresso
Le attività di orientamento in ingresso e in itinere favoriscono la consapevolezza delle scelte da parte degli studenti e tengono conto dei risultati del monitoraggio delle carriere.

La commissione didattica permanente organizza azioni specifiche attraverso la nomina di una commissione di orientamento e anche affidando a singoli docenti compiti peculiari per l’orientamento.
L’organizzazione e le azioni specifiche intraprese da ciascuna CDP sono riportate nelle apposite sezioni del sito web del dipartimento.
Le principali forme organizzative dell'attività di orientamento sono: la presentazione dei percorsi formativi del CdS agli studenti; una specifica attività di accoglienza e orientamento agli studi universitari; una struttura stabile, incaricata di provvedere all'orientamento degli studenti per la scelta degli orientamenti professionali e per la compilazione dei piani di studio.
La Commissione Orientamento del Dipartimento di Scienze gestisce la comunicazione delle informazioni relative ai corsi di studio e ai loro obiettivi formativi verso le componenti interne e esterne all’ università.
Tale attività, da sempre vista come un’occasione per diffondere la cultura geologica nel nostro Paese, ha visto in questi ultimi tre anni un ulteriore impegno.
Per quanto riguarda l’attività più strettamente orientata all’ illustrazione del Corso di Laurea in Geologia a Tutela Dell’Ambiente e la potenziale attività lavorativa del geologo, ogni anno il Consiglio Didattico organizza un incontro di orientamento con gli studenti del terzo anno del Corso di Laurea Triennale in Scienze Geologiche (L34) e, a partire dal 2022, con gli Studenti del Corso di Laurea in Scienze per la Protezione della Natura e la Sostenibilità Ambientale (L32)., per illustrare l’offerta didattica del Corso di Laurea Magistrale.
Nell’anno 2022-2023 sono previsti due eventi di orientamento, il 3 e il 16 maggio.
Inoltre, sempre allo scopo di illustrare il Corso di Laurea magistrale in Geologia e Tutela dell’Ambiente si sono organizzati incontri informali tra i docenti del corso di laurea, i dottoranti di Scienze della Terra e gli studenti del terzo anno della triennale.
Si sono inoltre svolti incontri e seminari divulgativi e informativi volti agli studenti dei CdL triennali in Scienze Geologiche (L34) e in Scienze per la Protezione della Natura e la Sostenibilità Ambientale (L32).
Nell’a.a.
2022/2023 sono stati organizzati 9 seminari divulgativi e 3 visite guidate a Roma e Provincia e, inoltre, una visita guidata ai laboratori didattici e di ricerca.
Inoltre, sul sito del Dipartimento di Scienze, alla pagina relativa al Corso di Laurea Magistrale in Geologia e Tutela dell’Ambiente, sono pubblicati i file pdf che illustrano la struttura del Corso di Laurea Magistrale, i curricula e gli insegnamenti previsti.
La sezione di Geologia partecipa a differenti iniziative organizzate dall’Ateneo come 'orientarsi a Roma Tre' di Ateneo che si svolge nel mese di luglio e il Salone dello Studente che si svolge ogni anno alla Fiera di Roma nel mese di novembre.
Inoltre, ogni anno a settembre la Sezione di Geologia del Dipartimento di Scienze partecipa all’organizzazione della Notte della Ricerca con numerose postazioni che illustrano varie tematiche geologico-ambientali.
Per incentivare le immatricolazioni al primo anno (iC00a), si è intrapresa a partire dall’anno 2019 una campagna informativa sull’offerta didattica del CdLM tramite i più comuni mezzi di informazione (Radio, social network, testi immagini filmati).
Il CdS partecipa anche a partire da novembre 2020, alla campagna di sensibilizzazione per le Scienze della Terra promossa a livello nazionale dalla Società Geologica Italiana.
Al fine di favorire il contatto con gli studenti attuali e potenziali, il Corso di Laurea gestisce inoltre i profili sui social media più utilizzati dagli studenti (Facebook e Instagram).
Infine, nell’a.a.
2022/2023 verranno assegnate 4 borse di studio per studenti iscritti al primo anno della Laurea Magistrale in Geologia e Tutela dell’Ambiente finalizzate a premiare le carriere più meritevoli e a promuovere l’immatricolazione degli studenti.
Il Corso di Studio in breve
Il Corso di Laurea Magistrale in Geologia e Tutela dell’Ambiente (Classe LM-74) si sviluppa in due anni per un carico didattico di 120 CFU.
Obiettivi formativi qualificanti: padronanza del metodo scientifico d’indagine e delle tecniche di analisi dei dati; strumenti avanzati per l'analisi dei sistemi e dei processi geologici; competenze operative di terreno e di laboratorio ed elevata capacità di trasferire i risultati della ricerca scientifica e tecnologica in campo professionale.
Il laureato potrà svolgere attività̀ di programmazione e progettazione d’interventi geologici e di coordinamento di strutture tecnico-gestionali.
Il Corso di Laurea è ad accesso libero.
Requisiti curriculari:
a) Laurea triennale o titolo estero equipollente;
b) Conoscenze nelle materie di base (Matematica, Fisica e Chimica) (minimo 18 CFU);
c) Conoscenze nelle Scienze della Terra (minimo 42 CFU);
Verifica della preparazione: colloquio orale su argomenti generali di Scienze della Terra.
Sono esonerati dal colloquio coloro che hanno conseguito il titolo di studio richiesto con una votazione ≥ 70/110 o laureandi con voto medio conseguito negli esami ≥ 21/30.

Curriculum Rischi Naturali e Gestione Del Territorio.
Questo Curriculum fornisce gli strumenti e le conoscenze necessarie ad affrontare problemi, anche conseguenti ai cambiamenti climatici in atto, innescati da eventi pericolosi, naturali ed indotti dall'uomo, ed il loro impatto sull'ambiente, stimandone la pericolosità e proponendo le possibili tecniche di mitigazione del rischio associato.
Curriculum Geologia della Transizione Energetica.
Questo curriculum fornisce una preparazione sia modellistica sia di terreno per l'esplorazione e la tutela del sottosuolo e della superficie terrestre, finalizzate all’individuazione e alla produzione sostenibili di energia da fonti rinnovabili e, subordinatamente, fossili.
Il curriculum affronta sia il contesto energetico, sia le prospettive d’integrazione crescente del mix energetico con fonti di energia rinnovabile di sottosuolo (geotermia) e di superfice (fotovoltaico, eolico, idroelettrico).
Curriculum Tettonica e Vulcanologia.
Il Curriculum in Tettonica e Vulcanologia è finalizzato allo studio della dinamica attiva del Pianeta Terra, caratterizzata da processi tettonici, sismici e vulcanici, a scala globale e regionale.
Sono approfondite le relazioni superficiali e profonde tra tettonica, geodinamica e vulcanologia attraverso corsi teorici, analisi di laboratorio e di terreno e modellistica avanzata, fornendo solide basi per l’analisi quantitativa dei dati.
Gli obiettivi formativi del curriculum sono:
•fornire l’esperienza sperimentale, le basi fisico-matematiche e strumenti all’avanguardia nell’analisi di osservabili geologici e geofisici per la trattazione quantitativa richiesta nella comprensione dei processi tettonici e magmatici;
•maturare una consolidata esperienza di terreno in aree di tettonicamente attive e vulcaniche.
Il Curriculum in Geofisica della Terra e dei Pianeti, in coordinamento con il Dipartimento di Matematica e Fisica, mira a fornire agli studenti le conoscenze geologiche e geofisiche per studiare l’interno della Terra e di altri pianeti.
Il corso è stato costruito sulla base della collaborazione, nel campo della sismologia, dell’analisi spaziale dei dati e della geofisica planetaria, con enti di ricerca nazionali (INGV) e internazionali (e.g., ESA).
Gli studenti acquisiranno solide basi per l’analisi quantitativa dei dati.
Un’attenzione particolare viene data ai metodi geofisici ed al telerilevamento.
Completano l’offerta formativa di tutti e quattro i curricula, due corsi a libera scelta selezionabili tra un ampio spettro di insegnamenti offerti dal CdLM e tra i corsi dei moduli a scelta multipla.
Possono inoltre essere presentati piani di studio individuali in Paleontologia e Paleoecologia, Analisi dei Materiali o nell’ambito dell’insegnamento della Matematica e delle Scienze fisiche, chimiche e naturali nelle scuole medie inferiori e superiori.
Sono disponibili, tramite concorso, borse di mobilità internazionale (Erasmus).
E’ possibile acquisire CFU tramite tirocini formativi presso strutture professionali qualificate, pubbliche e private, italiane ed estere, anche nel quadro di accordi internazionali, oppure tramite tirocini interni.
Il percorso formativo può proseguire con il Dottorato di Ricerca in Scienze della Terra.
Le competenze acquisite potranno trovare applicazione presso enti pubblici, istituzioni, aziende, società̀, studi professionali.
La Laurea consente inoltre l'accesso all'Albo professionale dei geologi (previo superamento dell’esame di stato).
Il corso prepara alla professione di: Geologi; Paleontologi; Geofisici; Idrologi.
Lo studente espliciterà le proprie scelte al momento della presentazione,
tramite il sistema informativo di ateneo, del piano di completamento o del piano di studio individuale,

Giving fundamental knowledge on the physics of ionospheric plasma and its instabilities through a description of the structure, composition and formation of the ionosphere, as well as of the main dynamics present in this transition zone. One of the objectives is to give the student the tools to enable him to carry out an analysis on the effects of solar ultraviolet radiation and the precipitation of magnetospheric particles in the broader framework of the study of the lithosphere-atmosphere-ionosphere-magnetosphere interactions. VOLCANOLOGY
(objectives)
The course aims at providing the students with the fundamentals for the interpretation of volcanic processes and for the recognition, classification and interpretation of deposits. The course starts from the description of the properties of magmas and their control on the dynamics of magma ascent within volcanic conduits and therefore on the eruptive characteristics, covering the whole spectrum of effusive and explosive phenomena, both in the sub-aerial and sub-aqueous environments. During the six days filed camp, the notions acquired for the description and facies analysis of volcanic deposits, their cartography and correlation and for the reconstruction of stratigraphic sequences will be put into practice in order to reconstruct the eruptive, transport and deposition processes, as well as the alternation of eruptive cycles and quiescences. The knowledge acquired during the course is fundamental for the developments foreseen in the various curricula, regarding volcanic risk, volcanism in the various geodynamic contexts and resources offered by volcanic areas, such as geothermal energy, stone and water resources. It is necessary, for the understanding of the topics covered, to have bases of sedimentology, petrography and geochemistry.

Giving fundamental knowledge on the physics of ionospheric plasma and its instabilities through a description of the structure, composition and formation of the ionosphere, as well as of the main dynamics present in this transition zone. One of the objectives is to give the student the tools to enable him to carry out an analysis on the effects of solar ultraviolet radiation and the precipitation of magnetospheric particles in the broader framework of the study of the lithosphere-atmosphere-ionosphere-magnetosphere interactions. The course aims at providing the students with the fundamentals for the interpretation of volcanic processes and for the recognition, classification and interpretation of deposits. The course starts from the description of the properties of magmas and their control on the dynamics of magma ascent within volcanic conduits and therefore on the eruptive characteristics, covering the whole spectrum of effusive and explosive phenomena, both in the sub-aerial and sub-aqueous environments. During the six days filed camp, the notions acquired for the description and facies analysis of volcanic deposits, their cartography and correlation and for the reconstruction of stratigraphic sequences will be put into practice in order to reconstruct the eruptive, transport and deposition processes, as well as the alternation of eruptive cycles and quiescences. The knowledge acquired during the course is fundamental for the developments foreseen in the various curricula, regarding volcanic risk, volcanism in the various geodynamic contexts and resources offered by volcanic areas, such as geothermal energy, stone and water resources. It is necessary, for the understanding of the topics covered, to have bases of sedimentology, petrography and geochemistry.

The course aims to provide a theoretical-practical overview of the quantitative analysis of the spatio-temporal evolution of sedimentary basins. Starting from the different classifications of sedimentary basins, the geological and geodynamic factors that regulate their evolution will be investigated in order to realise models of burial history, subsidence, T-P and acquire the multidisciplinary analytical datasets for the calibration of the models. The study of case histories related to the retrieval of natural gas, geothermal fluids, and critical materials for the energy transition (e.g., lithium) will provide information specific to each resource. The topic of energy transition will also be contextualised in the current global scenario and in the framework of Goals 7 and 13 of the UN 2030 Agenda.

The recently acquired knowledge of the impact of human activity on the environment constrains a number of initiatives aimed to the reduction of the deriving risks. On the one hand we need to recover and manage the natural resources necessary for our energy supply. On the other hand, this requires the subtraction from the environment of the waste residuals that derive from this activity. In the subsurface there exist geological structures, sufficiently isolated from the biosphere, that could accumulate either the energy resources and the waste stocking. The study (exploration and development) of such structures represents a major task to reduce the human civilization impact on the environment. During this course there will be introduced both the information connected to the formation and accumulation of fossil fuels (hydrocarbons) and the exploration and evaluation of geological structures potentially capable to stock, in a sufficiently isolated way, waste products, including those deriving from other energy resources (nuclear power plants). These two subjects are joined by similar geological structuring and will be presented with their different strategies and risk analysis. The purpose of this course is to provide the students the information required to his knowledge on the subject and his professional insertion in the subject.

Giving fundamental knowledge on the physics of ionospheric plasma and its instabilities through a description of the structure, composition and formation of the ionosphere, as well as of the main dynamics present in this transition zone. One of the objectives is to give the student the tools to enable him to carry out an analysis on the effects of solar ultraviolet radiation and the precipitation of magnetospheric particles in the broader framework of the study of the lithosphere-atmosphere-ionosphere-magnetosphere interactions. The heat of the Earth’s interior is one of the main renewable energy resources, of which a strong development is expected as an instrument of international policies aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The course is designed to provide students with the elements for understanding the fundamental characteristics of high, medium and low enthalpy geothermal systems, and of the main exploration methods for which the geologist is the main professional figure. As part of the course students will progressively acquire the ability to reconstruct a conceptual model of geothermal system starting from geological, geophysical and geochemical data, which will define the main extensive and intensive properties of heat sources, geothermal reservoirs and cap rocks. The fundamentals of geospatial and numerical modeling applied to geothermal prospecting will also be addressed. Students will be stimulated to analyze the problems and propose the relative solutions.

The course aims to provide 1) in-depth knowledge of the global climate system (atmosphere-hydrosphere-cryosphere-lithosphere); 2) to provide knowledge on natural climatic variations and the causes of climate change induced by anthropogenic forcing on a short-medium term scale (from ten days to million years) from historical and geological archives; 3) provide knowledge on future scenarios of climate change globally and in Italy.

VOLCANOLOGY

The course aims at providing the students with the fundamentals for the interpretation of volcanic processes and for the recognition, classification and interpretation of deposits. The course starts from the description of the properties of magmas and their control on the dynamics of magma ascent within volcanic conduits and therefore on the eruptive characteristics, covering the whole spectrum of effusive and explosive phenomena, both in the sub-aerial and sub-aqueous environments. During the six days filed camp, the notions acquired for the description and facies analysis of volcanic deposits, their cartography and correlation and for the reconstruction of stratigraphic sequences will be put into practice in order to reconstruct the eruptive, transport and deposition processes, as well as the alternation of eruptive cycles and quiescences. The knowledge acquired during the course is fundamental for the developments foreseen in the various curricula, regarding volcanic risk, volcanism in the various geodynamic contexts and resources offered by volcanic areas, such as geothermal energy, stone and water resources. It is necessary, for the understanding of the topics covered, to have bases of sedimentology, petrography and geochemistry.

EXPERIMENTAL TECTONICS
(objectives)
The goal of this course in to introduce the students to the basics of experimental modelling of tectonic processes. Experimental modelling is based on the use on analogue materials which can respect similarity principles in reproducing natural processes at smaller/faster spatial/temporal scales. The Laboratory of Experimental Tectonics was the first one developed in Italy, inspired by the long-term international tradition of analogue modelling. In this class, we will use continuum mechanics, which describes the response of a material to an imposed force, to study and understand cause-effect relationships between geometry, kinematics and dynamics of the solid earth. Introductory lectures provide the theoretical background on physical and rheology properties of analogue materials, scaling and quantification of natural results. The second phase of the course proposes hands on exercises during which the students will learn how to address scientific questions through building experimental models. Each argument will be presented offering an initial basic theoretical background which will be subsequently implemented by the widest range of updated interpretations and natural examples. Students will be expected to actively participate to the class activities (e.g. reading scientific papers, homework assignments, set-up of analogue models, in-class presentations).

The course starts from the description of the properties of magmas and their control on the dynamics of magma ascent within volcanic conduits and therefore on the eruptive characteristics, covering the whole spectrum of effusive and explosive phenomena, both in the sub-aerial and sub-aqueous environments. During the six days filed camp, the notions acquired for the description and facies analysis of volcanic deposits, their cartography and correlation and for the reconstruction of stratigraphic sequences will be put into practice in order to reconstruct the eruptive, transport and deposition processes, as well as the alternation of eruptive cycles and quiescences. The knowledge acquired during the course is fundamental for the developments foreseen in the various curricula, regarding volcanic risk, volcanism in the various geodynamic contexts and resources offered by volcanic areas, such as geothermal energy, stone and water resources. It is necessary, for the understanding of the topics covered, to have bases of sedimentology, petrography and geochemistry.
