The History of 17th century of French literature and culture.

Acquisition of a good level knowledge of the essential features of 16th and 17th century literary and cultural history of Spain, especially regarding the interrelations with historical and social dynamics, peculiar to the nation, and with the major shifts that characterized 18th and 19th century European culture. Acquisition of advanced abilities as to the methods of textual analysis, especially regarding the linguistic, figurative and intermedial dimension.

Students will develop an ability to critically engage with literary works and their cultural and historical contexts.

The course aims at providing the students with a thorough knowledge of the literary and cultural history of the Anglophone regions of America. Special attention will be devoted to the cultural and literary geographies, the processes of colonization, exile, and migration, as well as to the writing by ethnic, religious and gender minorities. The students will acquire competence with regard to the techniques of text analysis and the methods for literary and philological research. The reading of texts will be aimed at appraising their thematic, formal, intertextual, and performative aspects. The students will be also acquainted with the most important theoretical and critical references, and will be able to argue competently about the themes and issues tackled in the course.

The course aims also at offering the students methodological instruments they need to analyse literary complex and diversified texts. Deep knowledge of theoretical and methodological issues of syntactic analysis, such as the interplay between semantic roles and phrase structure, syntactic representations, interface interpretation and information structure.

This course will outline the characteristics of literary translation processes from French to Italian. The history of translation, from the target oriented translations of the Grand Siècle to the romantic source oriented translations will be followed by a survey of the history of French, aimed at developing a critical awareness of the problems of register that affect every literary translation from French into Italian.

The students will gain comprehension skills, speaking skills and writing skills at level B2/C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. They will get acquainted with text linguistics and pragmalinguistics, both focused on translation theory.

The Spanish culture and literature of 16th century and 17th century.

The course aims to provide students with advanced proficiency in methods of textual analysis, in order to understand and critically analyze literary phenomena within their specific socio-cultural dimension. Students will also be expected to acquire good knowledge of the outlines of Portuguese and Lusophonic literary and cultural history between the XIX and the XX century.

This module aims to provide students with a broad knowledge of the history of English literature and culture in the period from its origins to the end of the Renaissance (1660). It will provide them with a good competence in close-reading methodology and literary/ philological research, through the study of primary texts (in their thematic, formal, intertextual and intermedial aspects) and of secondary texts (in order to stimulate students’ understanding of the most recent theoretical and methodological debates).

Advanced knowledge of the literary and cultural history of the United States and the English-speaking countries of America in the twentieth century. The hostiry of 19 th century German literature and culture.

The course aims at offering the students thorough knowledge of Russian Literature and Culture of XIX century and theoretical and methodological debate. The course aims also at offering the students methodological instruments they need to analyse literary texts or essays. A critical methodology aimed at developing individual attitudes will be used. Students will able to develop autonomously further cultural and literary knowledge and competences of a higher level applying them to other, specific literary texts.
