(obiettivi)
INTERNATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL LAW AND CLIMATE CHANGE At the end of this course, students should be proficient in the following subject areas and skills: - Having general knowledge of the historical development of international environmental law (IEL), the main environmental Declarations and treaties and their enforcement - Having specific knowledge of the main principles of IEL, the relationship between this body of law and human rights, and of relevant international jurisprudence - Having specific knowledge of the international norms on climate change, the 2015 Paris Agreement, its legally binding force, its follow-up, and the remaining challenges - Carrying out their own critical analysis on specific questions in the fields of international environmental law and climate change, including through an examination of international case-law

This seminar will provide students with an overview and understanding of contemporary developments in international law with regard to the protection of the environment, the sustainable use of natural resources, and climate change. Topics to be addressed include the historic evolution of international environmental law (IEL); the main environmental Declarations and treaties; the principles of IEL; problems of enforcement and possible solutions; the relationship between IEL and other bodies of international law (human rights, the law of armed conflict, international economic law); and international judicial cases involving environmental norms. Moreover, the seminar will address the most recent developments in the international climate negotiations, focusing on the outcome of the 2015 Paris Conference, its follow-up, and the remaining challenges.
