SAMPAOLO GIOVANNI
(syllabus)
Translation, text, and text linguistics The module introduces the linguistic analysis of textual processes as a prerequisite for a methodologically sound approach to translation. The cognitive and pragmatic dimensions of the speech act will be the focus of our reflection on the act of translation, as well as the link between textual typology, prototype semantics, and translation strategies. Beyond the textual dimension, we will at last address the Diskurslinguistik, inspired by Michel Foucault's Discourse Analysis. Theoretical lectures will alternate with exercises in translation from German into Italian, in which different textual varieties will be addressed. In addition to the lectures given by the professor, students are expected to write short reports and essays, as well as to attend academic and cultural events organised by the lecturers in German Language and Translation
