nowledge of the phenomena that characterise the process of language acquisition (first, second and foreign), with particular attention to the linguistic aspects related to the sequences of acquisition and the development of proficiency: variability, systematicity and the internal and external factors that influence the path of acquisition. Knowledge of the characteristics of interaction between native and non-native speakers and its impact on L2 acquisition: modification and negotiation of input, role of output and feedback. Knowledge of the process of developing competence in the use of a foreign language, with attention to the role of context, input and learning strategies. Knowledge of the process of developing language skills, particularly through examples from English as FL and Italian as L2. Enhancement of the ability to compare languages from a contrastive perspective, with particular attention to the differences between Italian and English. Knowledge of the role of teaching in language learning, with particular reference to the main teaching methodologies developed by research in order to improve learning processes.
Students will be familiar with the research on spontaneous or guided learning of foreign languages and aspects of the order of acquisition; they will be able to carry out metalinguistic reflections; they will be aware of their own linguistic repertoire and will be able to use the comparison between languages to optimise their own learning; they will know the processes of learning and use of the foreign language, the role of context and learning strategies; they will know the processes of listening, speaking, reading and writing of foreign languages and of Italian L2; they will know the main teaching methodologies and technologies.
