The SOCIAL POLICY course provides a historical and theoretical framework for the concepts of social policy and the welfare system, describing the main models. It then explores how social change and changing needs impact the structure of social policies, and presents the framework of the social protection system's actors. The transition from the welfare state to the welfare mix and the concept of local welfare are illustrated. Social protection sector policies (social security, healthcare, assistance, and social services) are also described, providing a general overview and their profile in the Italian context. Finally, possible future scenarios for social policies in Italy are discussed.
