(objectives)
The Course “General Linguistics 2” (“Syntax”) falls within the domain of the Basic learning activities labelled “Philology, General and Applied Linguistics” of the Degree Course in Languages and Cultural-Linguistic Mediation, specifically the activities aiming at providing adequate tools for the analysis and the theoretical study of languages and language. The Course has the aim of providing: advanced competences in the analysis and reflection on the theoretical and methodological aspects of syntactic investigation, starting from the correlation between semantic roles and phrasal structure to the interaction between syntax and discourse grammar (information structure and “interfaces”). Reflection and formal analysis will be particularly focused on the curricular languages of students. Expected learning outcomes: The students will acquire a deeper knowledge on the theoretical aspects and an advanced competence in the methodological tools of formal analysis, through the application of phrasal rules on the languages studied in their degree; they will learn how to provide a formal interpretation of interface and discourse grammar phenomena.
