«Laughter in Spanish Literature: Paths between the Burlesque and the Satirical»
The course aims to explore the forms and functions of humor in Spanish literature through a journey that spans from the Siglo de Oro to the 1940s. The itinerary will focus on significant moments in the comic tradition, with particular attention to the poetic and theatrical domains. The course will begin with an introduction to several foundational theories of the comic (Freud, Bergson, Bakhtin), with the goal of providing students with the conceptual tools necessary for textual analysis. The investigation will then focus on two main modes of laughter: the burlesque and the satirical. These will be analyzed in their rhetorical, stylistic, and ideological dimensions, in order to highlight the functions and mechanisms of comic expression across different texts, genres, and historical-cultural contexts. The course is delivered in Spanish.
