COURSE PROGRAMME
* Historical overview, definition and tasks of Hygiene; definition of health; epidemiological transition; primary, secondary, tertiary and quaternary prevention; health promotion; risk factors and causal factors; introduction to global health. * Demographic methods: sources and methods of data collection. Main demographic indicators. * Epidemiological indicators and studies. * Secondary prevention: cancer screening programmes. * Characteristics and modes of transmission of infectious diseases. Direct prophylaxis: notification, investigation, isolation, disinfection and pest control. Specific prophylaxis: vaccines, serum therapy and chemoprophylaxis. * Primary prevention: vaccinations. * Migration medicine. * Water hygiene. * Environmental hygiene; air pollution and air hygiene. * Noise pollution, health effects and prevention. * Characteristics and management of liquid waste: disposal methods and risks of environmental contamination. * Solid waste: study of its characteristics and disposal methods; risks of environmental contamination. * Hygiene in the workplace: radiation protection. * Food hygiene: foodborne infections and intoxications.
