The course is divided into two parts: the first dedicated to the definition of the concept of terrorism and a historical reconstruction of its main manifestations. Contents: 1.. Defining Terrorism 2. The Roots of Terrorism 3. Typologies of Terrorism 4.The four waves 5. The “Anarchist” Wave 6. The “Anti-colonial” Wave 7. The Ideological Wave 8. The “Religious” Wave 9. al-Qaeda and ISIS 10. Reacting (to) and Countering Terrorism 11. The Role of Mass Media.
The second dedicated to the scientific debate on Italian terrorism: causes, origins and its significance in national history.
Contents: 1. The Origins and Causes of Italian Terrorisms 2. “Black” Terrorism: History and Features 3. “Red” Terrorism: History and Features 4. The “Aldo Moro Murder Case” and its Impact on the Italian Political System 5. The Italian Response to the Terrorist Threat.
