(syllabus)
Title: Music and Emotions
The course will explore the following questions: What is the relationship between music and emotions? How can we justify attributing emotional qualities to music? What do we mean when we say, for example, that certain music is sad, joyful, or melancholic? How can music evoke emotions (such as excitement, sadness, euphoria) in the listener? How can we explain our emotional responses to music? Finally, what kinds of emotions are generated by music listening?
