This course aims to give students procedural and conceptual knowledges for educational research. In the first phase, the course will focus on methods and procedures to collect and analyse data, specifically regarding mixed methods and how to adapt research depending on the contexts. In the second phase the course will focus on different research projects, structured on the theoretical basis from the first phase and aimed to educational and didactical innovation.
Montessori Pedagogy The educational journey will develop through the exploration of fundamental thematic cores that will allow us to understand the complexity and richness of Montessori thought.
1. Maria Montessori's Scientific Pedagogy Together we will reflect on the roots of Montessori educational experimentalism, analysing how the method developed through systematic observation of the child and empirical verification of educational practices. Special attention will be devoted to understanding the revolutionary contribution this approach has brought to the field of education.
2. The Educational Environment as Teacher We will explore the concept of the prepared environment, a central element of the Montessori method. We will analyse how the organization of space, the choice of materials, and the structuring of activities can promote children's autonomy and development. We will discuss the importance of freedom of choice and respect for individual learning paces.
3. The Role of the Educator We will delve into the figure of the Montessori teacher, analyzing the distinctive characteristics of their educational intervention. We will study the importance of observation as a professional tool and the delicate art of knowing how to guide without interfering, prepare without conditioning.
4. Scientific Observation Particular attention will be dedicated to the methodology of observation, a fundamental tool of scientific pedagogy. Students will learn techniques and tools for systematic observation in educational contexts, developing practical skills in documenting and analyzing developmental processes.
5. Montessori in the 21st Century We will reflect on the contemporary relevance of Montessori thought, analyzing how its principles can respond to contemporary educational challenges. We will explore innovative experiences of applying the method in different educational contexts.
