PURIFICATION PLANTS
(objectives)
The main scope of the course is to provide students with the basic knowledge and develop the fundamental skills of (i) civil and industrial wastewater management, and (ii) key elements for the design of wastewater treatment plant. The course belongs to the master degree in Civil Engineering for the protection from natural hazards, which aims to prepare highly qualified students in civil engineering by providing tools for the design, construction, maintenance and management of civil structures and infrastructures. Within such framework, the course aims at providing students with the basic knowledge and understanding about: 1) the reference legislation for the spillage of wastewater into receiving water bodies; 2) the characterization of wastewater; 3) wastewater treatment plant; 4) treatment and management of the resulting sludge; 5) low or high technology plant layouts. Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to 1) design some sewage treatment units 2) evaluate the design alternatives according to the type of incoming wastewater and with reference to the current legislation.
