21010043 HISTORY AND METHODOLOGY OF ANALYSIS IN ARCHITECTURE in Science-Architecture L-17 STURM SAVERIO
(syllabus)
The course of “History and Methods of Analysis of Architecture” aims at critically retracing the composition process - either ideological, methodical or procedural- at the basis of every architecture. Lessons in chronological sequence, from early modern age to the XX century, are dedicated to masterworks or lesser known architectures, discussing the sources required by selected "history making" processes. This section of the course aims at presenting a series of different historical analysis and interpretations, considered of significant value with respect to the scientific background of the author, to her/his methods of investigations, to research goals, patronage and chronological context. In particular, the course will deal with monographic topics aimed at the methodological acquisition for the workshop elaboration of ‘Atlases of Architecture’. The topics will vary, depending on the year, from diachronic readings of specific typologies (convent architecture, church models, the villa, the residence, ...) to certain territorial contexts (the Umbria of sanctuaries, new cities in Sicily, ...), or interpretative analyses of general phenomena (sustainability in history, spontaneous architecture, the concept of the ‘Classic’, ‘Geoarchitecture’, ...).
