(syllabus)
The course will be dedicated to the study of the characters and evolutionary lines of cities in Europe between the eighteenth and twentieth centuries. The analysis will focus on economic and social aspects, with a prevailing attention to capital cities and their relationship with metropolitan areas.
The monographic section will focus on the long-term transformations of Rome Capital of Italy, and the structural problems that have affected its growth. Students who follow the course will be invited to report, individually or in groups, on experimental studies and research: these activities will form an integral part of the evaluation during the exam.
Undergraduates in disciplines in the area of economic history will be able to agree on an ad hoc program with the teacher.
