Renewable energy sources: description, availability, analysis of power collection systems. The transition in energy conversion field: the current status, medium and long term goals, RES penetration in energy markets - issues and challenges. Hydraulic energy: resource availability, hydroelectric plants, micro and mini hydro. Wind energy: resource availability assessment, types of available machines, power production principles, performance evaluation, technical and installation issues, environmental impact. Geothermal Energy: low and high enthalpy geothermal systems, technologies for thermal applications; technologies for power production. Solar Energy: solar energy characterization and availability, thermal applications, CSP systems for power production, direct conversion systems. Energy from biomass: biomass classification and characterization, gaseous fuels from biomass, use of biomass for power production. Marine renewable energy sources: classification, availability and power collection and production systems.
