LANGUAGE AND TRANSLATION - RUSSIAN 2 B
(objectives)
First language The 2nd yr Language and Translation 2B course (first language) comes under the core learning activities (Specialized languages, advanced linguistic competences and linguistic mediation from and to the languages of study) of the “Languages and cultures studies of the respective country” of the bachelor’s degree course in Languages and Cultural & Linguistic Mediation, specifically those activities aimed at providing effective operational competence at the levels established for the first language, as well as theoretical knowledge of specialized foreign language, of activities and strategies of linguistic and cultural mediation, in particular in multilingual contexts. The course aims at making students: - achieve B2 level in all skills- Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) 2018 (https://rm.coe.int/cefr-companion-volume-with-new-descriptors-2018/1680787989), through reception, production, interaction, written and spoken mediation activities as well as their related strategies. - deepen their metalinguistic reflection also at comparative level: structural, textual, sociolinguistic and pragmatic aspects. -use some resources and tools for language study and for introduction to translation (dictionaries, corpora and concordancers). -reflect on intercultural communication, on linguistic-cultural mediation and on translation. -apply their acquired knowledge to short texts of different text-types and genres.. Expected learning results: students will be able to use their first foreign language at B2 level, they will be able to use the corresponding communicative strategies; they will be able to carry out metalinguistic reflection activities in a comparative perspective; they will learn and start using tools for language study; they will have basic notions on communication and intercultural mediation; they will apply acquired knowledge to the analysis of short texts in the language of study. Second language The 2nd yr Language and Translation course (second language) comes under the core educational activities of the “Languages and cultures studies of the respective country” of the bachelor’s degree course in Languages and Cultural-Linguistic Mediation, specifically those activities aimed at providing effective operational competence at the levels established for the second language as well as theoretical knowledge of the main characteristics of the foreign language. The course aims at providing: -the achievement of the B1 level - Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) 2018 (https://rm.coe.int/cefr-companion-volume-with-new-descriptors-2018/1680787989), through reception, production, interaction, written and spoken mediation activities, as well as through related strategies. (As for Russian, the level will be equivalent to B1). -Further metalinguistic analysis also at a comparative level: structural, textual, sociolinguistic and pragmatic aspects. -use of some lexicographic resources. -Analysis of intercultural communication, linguistic-cultural mediation and translation. - Application of acquired knowledge to short texts. Expected learning results: students will be able to use their second foreign language at a B1 level, they will be able to use communicative strategies corresponding to this level; they will be able to carry out metalinguistic activities from a comparative perspective; they will learn and start using some lexicographic resources at a basic level; they will have basic notions on communication and intercultural mediation; they will begin to apply acquired knowledge to the analysis of short texts in the language of study.

(syllabus)
The course is aimed at deepening the lexico-grammatical and semantic foundations of Russian. It will focus on: semantic functions of the cases; pronouns (possessive, indefinite, negative); adjectives (comparative and superlative degrees); numerals (dates, expressions time); impersonal constructions with the dative case; modal; verbs of position; prefixed verbs of motion; aspect use in the imperative and infinitive; conditional. The basic notions relating to the syntax of the complex sentence will be provided as well (direct and indirect speech, temporal, causal, final, concessive and hypothetical clauses). For the assessment of knowledge, written and oral exercises and workshops will be held on the Teams and Moodle platforms of the course, where students will be involved in peer review and evaluation activities. The methods for defining responsibilities, managing, and organizing the various phases of work will be strengthened and verified; students will have the opportunity to interact and deal with methodological approaches different from their own and to manage their responsibilities by working both individually and in groups.
