Graduates in Languages and Literatures for Teaching and Translation obtain advanced knowledge and understanding in all the subject areas of their training in order to 1) consolidate and develop their competence in European and American Studies, with particular attention to their literature of specialisation; 2) deepen their knowledge of the two foreign languages chosen, achieving a heightened competence in the language of specialization and an advancement in the second language; 3) reach enhanced awareness of the linguistic features of their language of specialisation, both from a diachronic and a synchronic perspective; 4) reach an adequate knowledge of the most advanced methodologies for the analysis of literary texts; 5) handle confidently the theoretical-practical tools for teaching and for translation.
Literatur, Theater, Kino und visuelle Künste/ Literature, theatre, cinema and visual arts is one of the characterising modules of the programme. The aim of the course is to refine the ability to understand and critically analyse literary texts and to carry out bibliographical research drawing on primary and secondary sources; to communicate disciplinary content at an advanced level; and to deepen linguistic-communicative skills in the German language. At the end of the module students will be able to: analyse with greater competence the themes and phenomena of the history of German-language literature understood in its multiple relations with the history of other media such as theatre, cinema and the visual arts; develop practical and theoretical skills at an advanced level with reference to the analysis of literature as part of a more general history of the media.
Requirements: Students must have already taken Literatur und Intermedialität/ Literature and intermediality.

Bildungsromane or Medienromane?
The module aims to interpret the German genre of the Bildungsroman in the light of the most recent theories of media and aesthetic reception. The novels of Goethe, Novalis, Thomas Mann and Hermann Hesse will be analysed by considering, on the one hand, the media practices that appear in their contents and, on the other hand, will be reread with attention to their Wirkung, their media effect on the readers.
