VANGI MICHELE FABIO
(syllabus)
In today's globalized world, multilingualism is frequently discussed. But what does it mean to grow up, live, and think multilingually? How does multilingualism manifest in translation theory and practice? In the first part of the course, biographical approaches to multilingualism will be examined based on sociolinguistic research. Ideological constructs, such as the dominance of a national language, will also be critically questioned; the Austrian education system will serve as a case study. In the second part of the course, the focus will be on multilingualism in literature: not only the writing practices of multilingual authors but also translation concepts and theories that arise "between languages" (translinguism) will be explored.
