PART 1: ELEMENTS OF GAS-DYNAMICS/THERMO-DYNAMICS Introductory concepts; governing equations for compressible flows; quasi-1D model for compressible flows (isoentropic flows); 1D model for compressible flows; normal shocks; evolution of compressible flows in convergent and divergent ducts; entropy evaluation in a compressible flow. Basics of thermodynamics; definition of a thermodynamic cycle and calculation of its efficiency (ideal and real). PART 2: AICRAFT PROPULSIVE SYSTEMS Introductory concepts and classification. Performance parameters. Definition of thrust and power. Definition of efficiencies. Simple turbojet; turbofan; ramjet; turboprop. Propellers and blade element theory. Nozzles and diffusers (sub- and super-sonic).
