PORTUGUESE AND BRASILIAN LANGUAGE AND TRANSLATION 3
(objectives)
The 3rd yr Language and Translation course (second language) comes under the core educational activities (Domain-specific languages, advanced linguistic competences and linguistic mediation into/out of the languages of study) of the “Languages and cultures studies of the respective country” of the bachelor’s degree course in Languages and Cultural-Linguistic Mediation, specifically those activities aimed at providing effective operational competence at the levels established for the second language as well as theoretical knowledge of domain-specific languages, of the activities and strategies for linguistic and cultural mediation, in particular in plurilingual contexts. The course aims at providing: -the achievement of the B2 level in oral comprehension and oral and written production, and of the C1 level in written comprehension - Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) 2018 (https://rm.coe.int/cefr-companion-volume-with-new-descriptors-2018/1680787989), through reception, production, interaction, written and spoken mediation activities, as well as through related strategies. (As for Russian, the level will be equivalent to B2 and a level equivalent to C1 in written texts comprehension). -deepening of metalinguistic analysis also at a comparative level: structural, textual, sociolinguistic and pragmatic aspects. -use of resources and tools for language study and translation (dictionaries, corpora and concordances). - application of acquired knowledge to the analysis and translation of short texts. -knowledge and comprehension of theoretical and methodological issues related to translation as linguistic-cultural mediation. - analysis of diverse oral and written text types also in order to plan short linguistic and cultural teaching paths within L2 didactics in educational and institutional contexts. Expected learning results: students will be able to use their second foreign language at a B2 level (C1 for written comprehension), they will be able to use the corresponding communicative strategies; they will be able to carry out metalinguistic activities from a comparative perspective; they will learn and start using some lexicographic resources at a basic level; they will have basic notions on communication and intercultural mediation; they will begin to apply acquired knowledge to the analysis of short texts in the language of study.

The course aims at analysing the Portuguese language in literary and filmic texts. Syntactic functions, language production in interaction and forms of textual organisation will be analysed, emphasising syntactic, marked and unmarked constructions.
