COMPUTER-AIDED DESIGN FOR CIVIL ENGINEERING
(objectives)
Computer-aided design for civil engineering is an online course given within the three years of the Degree in Civil Engineering. This degree aims at providing tools for the design, construction, maintenance and management of civil structures and infrastructures, such as buildings, bridges, tunnels, transport systems, hydraulic works and land protection. The course is aimed at providing students with the basic knowledge and understanding of some software (Excel, Powerpoint, Autocad, Coreldraw, Matlab) and their capabilities and tools for the development of numerical processing and graphics applications. Such applying knowledge will be useful for the design courses of the Degree in Civil Engineering. At the end of the course the students will be able to: 1) use excel software for data management and processing by the means of tables, graphs, equations and functions: 2) solve some typical problems of optimization with constraints using additional components of Excel software like macro and solver; 3) represent data effectively through graphs, tables and diagrams; 4) print Excel work sheets; 5) apply Autocad commands to create technical papers and drawings; 6) use plot setting to print Autocad files; 7) apply basic commands of Matlab
