The Edition of Medieval and Humanistic texts: typologies and problems
The first section of the course will deal with methodological aspects and problems of philological-critical work on different types of Medieval and Humanistic texts, both in Latin and vernacular. The second part will focus on the study of marginal annotations by Francesco Petrarca and Giovanni Boccaccio. It will examine the postilles left by both on the same manuscripts, such as the mss. Paris, BnF, Lat. 8082 (with Claudian), Par. Lat. 6802 (with Pliny the Elder's ‘Naturalis historia’) and Par. Lat. 5150 (with the ps.-Hugo Falcandus and other medieval works of historical interest) or even the ms. Venezia, Bibl. Naz. Marciana, Gr. XI 29 [= 1007] (with Homer's ‘Odyssey’ in the Latin translation of Leontius Pilatus), and also the annotations they left in the margins of the same authors but in different manuscripts, including Apuleius and Flavius Iosephus.
