Reciprocating engines: gasoline and diesel engines. Design and performance characteristics of gasoline and diesel engines: preliminary analysis and detail design procedure. Four-stroke engines, two-stroke engines. Mechanical supercharging and turbocharging: objectives and applications. Characterization of fuels, alternative fuels and biofuels; lubricating oils. Fuel, air and combustion thermodynamics Pollutants formation and control. Testing equipment and measurements.
Gas Turbines: architecture of gas turbines. Performance analysis and evaluation of the functional characteristics of compressors, combustion chambers, turbines. The aerodynamics of the combustor chamber, the heat flows to the walls and cooling techniques. Fuel supply systems: liquid and gas. Pollutants formation and control.
