The course will cover modern global satellite navigation systems (Global Navigation Satellite System - GNSS), the technologies and operating principles of satellite receivers, signal processing techniques for positioning, the effects of signal propagation in the atmosphere, coordinate and reference systems. Inertial sensor-based localization systems (IMU, i.e. accelerometers and gyroscopes) and heterogeneous localization systems (e.g. GNSS+IMU integration) will also be studied.
The course is organized into 4 teaching units: a first part in which the general concepts of GNSS systems (architectures, signals, reference systems, processing and modeling, positioning) are examined, a second part in which advanced aspects related to GNSS signal processing (differential positioning, relative positioning, RTK, PPP, augmentation systems) are explored in depth, a third part dedicated to GNSS receiver technologies (RF front-end, A/D conversion, signal acquisition and tracking, Software Defined Radio-GNSS), and finally a fourth part related to inertial navigation systems (INS) and heterogeneous systems (e.g. INS/GNSS integration).
