late ancient philology in Classical studies LM-15 DI MARCO MICHELE
(syllabus)
Module Title: The Monastic Rule of Augustine. Philological, Linguistic and Literary Aspects and Problems
The module, of a monographic nature, intends first of all to retrace, in broad terms, the origins and typologies of the monastic phenomenon – notoriously one of the most characteristic expressions of the religious and cultural history of the late ancient period and the Middle Ages –, to then focus on analyzing, with particular attention to the lexicon and use of sources, the texts that convey the monastic ideals of Augustine, their transmission and the philological problems connected with their authenticity. – The module will also include exercises aimed at orienting knowledge and critical use of the main digital resources for study and research on Christian authors of late antiquity.
