INTRODUCTION TO ENDOCRINOLOGY (1 CFU): HISTORY, CHEMICAL NATURE OF HORMONES, EVOLUTION OF CHEMICAL SIGNALS. ENDOCRINE GLANDS, HORMONE SYNTHESIS AND RELEASE (ENDOCRINE, AUTOCRINE, PARACRINE, AND INTRACRINE ACTIONS, HORMONAL RHYTMS). HORMONES FROM ENDOCRINE GLANDS (HYPOTALAMUS AND PITUITARY, PANCREAS, THYROID and PARATHYROID HORMONES, ADRENALS, GONADS). HORMONES PRODUCED BY SPECIALIZED CELLS (BONES, MUSCLE). MECHANISMS OF HORMONE ACTIONS (SIGNALLING FROM MEMBRANE AND INTRACELLULAR RECEPTORS).
THE ENDOCRINE SYSTEM AND INTEGRATIVE PHYSIOLOGY (3 CFU): REPRODUCTIVE ENDOCRINOLOGY (FETAL GROWTH, PREGNANCY, MATERNAL ADAPTATION TO PREGNANCY). GROWTH (GROWTH FACTORS AND ONCOGENES IN FETAL GROWTH, POSTNATAL GROWTH, PUBERTY, HORMONES AND THE GENDER/SEX DIFFERENCES). AGEING (THEORIES, HORMONE REPLACEMENT THERAPIES, GERIATRIC ENDOCRINOLOGY). METABOLIC ENDOCRINOLOGY (REGULATION OF FOOD UPTAKE, REGULATION OF DIGESTIVE PROCESSES, OBESITY) HORMONES AND ENVIRONMENTAL INJURIES (1 CFU): STRESS ADAPTATION. ENVIRONMENTAL ENDOCRINE DISRUPTORS. DISORDERS OF THE ENDOCRINOLOGY SYSTEM (CELL GROWTH AND CANCER).
CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF SCIENTIFIC LITERATURE (1 CFU)
