(syllabus)
The course aims to provide students with the theoretical and experimental concepts for understanding the earthquake generation through the seismological and geodetic studies of the seismic source and the crustal deformation associated with the seismic cycle, with particular attention to the seismicity of our peninsula. It will also deal with issues related to microzonation, seismic hazard and its application in seismic codes and regulations, as well as practical experiments for the acquisition and analysis of seismic and geodetic data. It is scheduled the visit to the seismic monitoring system and the laboratories of the Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia, together with a possible field trip to the epicentral area of the 2016-17 Central Italy seismic sequence or field experiment, including data acquisition and analysis.
