(syllabus)
The course will address the constitutive and thematic problems of the production of deviance and the crime question on an international scale, both understood as political and social issues. In particular, topics such as the political economy of punishment; the relationship between criminality as a statistic and the processes of criminalisation and social and gender discrimination; the relationship between criminal law, society and inequality; migration, criminalisation and public opinion; gender violence and female deviance will be addressed; prison as a social institution; criminality of the powerful groups, politicians and 'white collar'; environmental crimes; local and international mafias; urban security; mental deviance and drug addiction; criminalisation of political dissent; police and state crimes; international crime and human rights genocide and colonialism; penal populism and the crisis of the rule of law.
