The course intends to deepen some aspects of text linguistics and translation studies, combining them with practical translation exercises. Particular attention will be paid to the specificities of the Portuguese language in its Brazilian variety. The theme of the registers and characteristics of different types of text, from journalistic to legal, will then be addressed, with an in-depth study of genre differences in literary translation. We will read together the essays of classical and contemporary authors and we will address the concept of discursive traditions. The reflection on the types of text will be accompanied by observations on the types of translation
