The PHOTOGRAPHY AND SOCIAL HISTORY laboratory, held by Manuela Fugenzi, journalist, photo editor and photographic critic, is an articulated activity on historical and contemporary photography, aimed to understanding its role as witness of civil society as well as its narrative potential. By showing and contextualizing the most significant examples of italian and international photography -from the mid-nineteenth century to the present day- on topics of strong social value, students will be guided in a simulation of photo research online in archives of institutions and photo agencies, as well as in their family albums. This year the subject will be: MIGRANT PEOPLES.
Topics and activities of the workshop-lessons: • References to history of photography and major themes of social history • The photographic language; analog photography, digital photography • Photographic genres and online archives: accesses and research methods • The archive card: checking the information and drafting the caption • Selection of images in a sequence • Final editing of the photographs and drafting of the related captions and photo credits • Creation of a portfolio using PowerPoint
