The students of the course will develop the following competencies and skills:

- reading an ancient Greek text
- recognizing the essential structures of Greek language
- using etymology (both for modern and ancient words)
- knowing the basic Greek vocabulary
- knowing the vocabulary of specific fields (e.g. art history, archaeology, linguistics)
- using the (electronic) dictionary
- using the most important corpora of Greek language and literature
