20709148 LABORATORIO DI FILMAKING 4 in DAMS - Studies in Performing Arts L-3 N0 picchi michele
(syllabus)
The laboratory provides for the analysis of film direction in its aspects related to the visual increase of tension in the story through images. By studying the choice of the various plans (details, details, close-ups, medium shots, long shots, camera movements), the editing techniques and the narrative-visual point of view used in the story, we will try to tell how the directors manage to translating the gradual progress of the dramaturgical writing into a visual crescendo and underlining the crucial moments of the narrative. How to visually underline the relevant points of a script, the triggering event that starts the story, its twists and turns, the highlights? And the so-called CLIMAX - which in the script manuals corresponds to the climax of the story - how is it translated into images by the filmmakers so that, even on a visual level, it represents the emotional climax of the story? Starting from examples of cinema classics such as Ejzenstejn, Welles, Hitchcock, Bunuel, Clouzot, Polanski, Scorsese up to Nigth Shyamalan, Demme, Spielberg and Fincher, we will deal with very different reference models but with the common intention of telling a story with the maximum of pathos and emotional involvement of the viewer. Objective that the laboratory, with the alternation of theory and practical exercises, aims to deepen.
