(syllabus)
First of all, the course will be dedicated to the historical evolution of the relationship between the economy and law and of public intervention in the economy, analysing the forms, contents and methods of market regulation and governance. In this context, it is necessary to identify the reasons that legitimize the establishment of public regulatory powers exercised with independence from political power and the regulated sector, aimed at achieving common objectives, such as the functioning of competition, and to protect citizens, in particular consumers. The relationship between sources of law and new technologies will then be addressed by focusing on regulation and self-regulation. The structure and effects of online democracy and the legal problems posed by the collection, interconnection and use of large amounts of information with regard to privacy and data security will be investigated. Finally, the focus will be on Fin Tech, i.e. the financial innovation made possible by technological innovation, the various emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, Big Data and cryptocurrency applied to the financial production and distribution sector.
