The aim of the course is to provide students with the basics and tools of functional sociological theory and research to promote processes of analysis and understanding of the social significance that the themes of democracy and citizenship play in today's welfare systems.

At the end of the course the student acquired the ability to reflect critically on the foundations and structures of today's welfare systems using the concepts and tools of sociology.
