The microbiology course is intended to give knowledge of: 1) the structure and function of the prokaryotic cell; 2) the basic mechanisms of bacterial replication, nutrition, growth and metabolism of bacteria; 3) bacterial genetics; 4) antimicrobial drugs, drug resistance, and the control of microbial growth; 5) the concept of species, evolution and biodiversity in prokaryotes; 6) principles of microbial ecology; 7) of fundamental replication mechanisms of bacteriophages and animal viruses; 8) mechanisms of interaction between bacteria and viruses and the higher organisms.
