SEMINAR - CONFLICTS, DE-FACTO STATES, AND NATIONAL QUESTIONS IN THE POST-SOVIET SPACE
(objectives)
The aim of the course is to provide an overview of the origin, characteristics and evolution of some of the main conflicts that exploded on post-Soviet space in the last three decades, many of which are still unresolved. After an initial part dedicated to national issues in the Tsarist and Soviet era, the course focuses on the cases of conflicts and de facto entities in Nagorno-Karabakh, Transnistria, Abkhazia and South Ossetia. The third and last part will be dedicated to the two Chechen wars and the Russian intervention in Ukraine in 2014, two key conflicts to understand contemporary Russia
