(syllabus)
This course aims at tracking the most outstanding moments of French literature in the XX century and at offering an in-depth analysis of the cultural and historical context of the above mentioned period. Special attention will be paid to the notion of genre, current and movement and the analysis of selected passages will provide clues to the main literary, artistic and formal issues.

M. Bertini (a cura di), Beaubourg. Auteurs, textes, genres de la littérature française. Le XIXe siècle (the selection of passages to be read and anaysed will be provided during the course). Texts: Three novels or collections of poems or play to be chosen among the following: Apollinaire, Alcools or Calligrammes; Beckett, En attendant Godot; Butor, La Modification; Camus, L’Étranger or La Peste; Gide, Les Caves du Vatican or Les Faux Monnayeurs; Ionesco, La Cantatrice chauve. As regards the collections a representative choice of poems is required. All texts are be read in unabridged version and original language. Parallel texts are allowed.
