One of the main aims of this Course of Study is to provide students with advanced knowledge of two foreign literatures related to the two languages of their choice, paying special attention to intercultural and transcultural dynamics. The course also aims at refining their ability to interpret cultural phenomena, using the tools and methodologies of literary, cultural and historical analysis. English Literature II is among the characterizing activities of the "Foreign Literatures" area. It allows students to have a good knowledge and understanding of Sixteenth, Seventeenth and Eighteenth century English literature, with special attention to intercultural dynamics and the theoretical-methodological debate; it helps students master the tools and methodologies of literary, cultural and historical analysis. At the end of the module, students will reach a good critical ability in the interpretation of exemplary texts in the original language, as well as the necessary competence for oral rewording, translation, rewriting and adaptation in Italian of the texts themselves. They will also be able to re-elaborate and communicate disciplinary knowledge in a specialized and non-specialized intercultural context. Il programma intende affrontare il trapasso dal secolo XVII al XVIII attraverso una lettura della Tempesta shakespeareana e della riscrittura post-rivoluzionaria di Dryden-Davenant, e il secolo XVIII attraverso lo studio della Favole della botte e dei Viaggi di Gulliver, con speciale attenzione al quarto libro. Gli studenti leggeranno per conto loro il Robinson Crusoe

From Courtly Culture to Communication in the Public Sphere: Literary Models and the Development of Criticism in English literature from the Renaissance to the Enlightenment.
The course aims to bring students to a good knowledge and understanding of English literature of the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries through the study of exemplary texts.
It aims to the development of the critical-interpretative autonomy of the students through close reading, translation, rewriting, discussion of the exemplary texts also in an intermedial perspective.
