(syllabus)
The course aims to provide students with the foundations for a critical understanding of urban issues and to enable them to relate these issues to the role that design can play in developing possible solutions. The structure of the course and the topics addressed allow students to position their educational experience in dialogue with both architectural themes and urban studies, establishing possible connections and relationships and thereby developing an integrated overall perspective.
The course encourages an argumentative and critical approach to the issues of the contemporary urban condition through the study of practices, theoretical frameworks, and design experimentation. Students will be asked to work within different urban contexts. The course includes theoretical lectures, analyses and interpretations of urban contexts, and theoretical-practical exercises focused on the relationship between space and community in the contemporary city, taking housing as the main field of investigation.
