Università Roma Tre

The course (first semester) deals with the acquisition of general themes of pre- and protohistoric archaeology (specially the Italian scene) and will be dedicated also to the visit of Roman prehistoric museums and/or archaeological sites.

A first module (36 hours) will be dedicated to the study of the recent prehistory (Neolithic and Copper Age) societies, the first ones to develop a productive economy (agriculture, husbandry and pastoralism), implying a sedentary way of life and the ultimate overcoming of Palaeolithic lifeways, based on mobility, hunting and foraging practices.
The second module (again 36 hours) concerns the protohistory (Bronze and Iron Ages), period characterized by an ever growing social differentiation inside the societies, culminating with the birth of the city and of the State.
Furthermore, single case-studies will be presented by the scholars involved.
